Advantages: It works, moisturises and is good value because it's lasts for a long time

Disadvantages: Can give you slightly flakey skin if over used

Ever since I was young, I have always suffered from cold sores (and I mean suffered). When Zovirax first came out a few years back, I thought it was a bit pricey compared to blisstex, which I had used before but that hadn't really worked. However, out of sheer desperation after yet another break out and after trying the Compeed patches (which don't work) I thought it was worth a try and so I bought it. I can honestly say it was a great day when I did that because my life has been basically cold sore free ever since.

I get cold sores if I'm stressed out, run down, upset, you name it and I'll have a cold sore 3 days after, but Zovirax is my new secret weapon. I keep it in my make-up bag (which is with me always) and if I feel even the slightest tingle, I dab a bit on and it never shows.

Now, I did get the slight beginnings of a blister a few weeks back after I'd lent this to my mum and she never gave it back. I felt truly lost without it. But as soon as I got it back, I dabbed a bit of this baby on and it went no further. It stayed at the small blister staged, dried up very quickly and the rest is, as they say, history.

There really is nothing worse that a massive cold sore and it really does make you feel very self conscious but I must say, with Zovirax, I don't worry about it any more.

It does what it says on the tin, prevents a blister from forming at tingle stage and at blister stage, dried it out in only a few days.

There are two options with Zovirax you can get it in a tube or in a pump. Personally, I prefer the tube as it is easier to get a tiny amount out, which is actually all you really need. However, it does become squashed easily and does start to split after you've had it a while so the pump is really the way to go.

At about £6 or £7 a pop in most Boots or supermarkets, it is a little more expensive than other's at only £4 but it's the only one I've found to work. Moreover, you need so little of it; it lasts for a very, very long time.

The only downside I have found with this is that with repetitive use on an area yet unaffected by a blister (ie. using it so much out of sheer terror you'll get another cold sore) it does have a 'peeling' effect on the skin/lips. Although to be honest, that's what it's supposed to do and I think it's just a misuse on my part.

Summary: I will always keep this in a make-up bag as it is one of my fail safe products

God, I'm really sorry it doesn't work for the two of you, especially since it works just so well for me. I have heard of a new treatment that's come out but I can't for the life remember what it is - I'm sure it starts with C or something. I have heard though that some people use Witch Doctor Gel as a way to halt it and stop it spreading. It forms like an invisible barrier, so that may be something to use insted next time?

I was about the say what takeachance said, every time I've used this my cold sore has got worse. My daughter swears by it though.
