Advantages: easy to use, clears up coldsores and keeps them from being painful

Disadvantages: expensive, repetitive application

I suffer from cold sores once maybe twice a year usually just after a really bad cold or when I'm ridiculously stressed from getting no sleep. I know that if I feel that little tingly sensation around my lips I need to get zovirax on asap and from being caught so early is often prevented from even showing up! As soon as I've used up a tube I buy another one for the next time so I am prepared and don't have to wait to go out to purchase.

There's been a few times where I have had the coldsore for a few days already then started applying the zovirax (this is due to not having money at the right time) and within a few hours the coldsore it scabbing over and going yellow (EWWWW). I apply it slightly more often than you are told as I'm a bit paranoid, I doubt this helps speed up the process though, it just makes me feel better. Then over the course of four to six days (depending on how early you started applying zovirax or the amount you use) the coldsore heals and is gone. So it doesn't clear it up as quickly if you don't catch it early on but still eases the irritation and healing.

I also use the ice cube technique before I go to bed to speed things along and then blob on a large amount of Zovirax so the coldsores completely covered through the night (nighttime is when you skin does most of it's healing in general so I like to think this helps). I find Zovirax to be the best cold sore remedy I have come across to help make the coldsore more bearable and comfortable too, as it keeps it moisturised so it doesn't crack which can be very painful, whilst at the same being the quickest to dry them up!

You only really end up using about half a tube for one coldsore so for me some gets wasted as you need to throw it out after a few weeks which is annoying at £4 a tube but as it works I'm not too fussed. If you suffer from more than one at the same time it'll be more worth it too.

Although it's a little expensive for £4-6 for such a small tube it is definitely worth it as it does dry the coldsore out and speed the healing process up when and can prevent coldsores from even showing if caught early! Coldsores I have had without using Zovirax have lasted about 10/11 days and when I have used it they have lasted for about 6/7 at the very most. Even though that doesn't sound like a big difference, any cold sore sufferer will know it is! Even if you don't have a coldsore right now, I suggest you buy some right now for you medicine cabinet for when one does without flare up!

***** Recently had an outbreak from being stressed and got a new tube only to find it has new packaging, still in a cardboard box but now in a handy little pump bottle! Much easier to clean and so much more hygienic and easier to store!!!

Summary: Always keep one in my medicine cabinet for one a sneaky one flares up!
