Oscillating Halogen Heater
by laurenthornton
I bought this heater a few years back,I don't really use it anymore and it has been sat in the back closet for a while now but back when I bought it and needed it, I was very happy after buying as it was much smaller than the version I had before but gave off just as much heat, this little heater does a great job of taking the chill out ... of the air. With a slow steady movement this heater moves from side to side in turn spreading the heat around the room, creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere.
The halogen heater is well designed with a grey modern finish looking stylish the heater is appealing to the eye and blends in easy with the room, this 1200W heater comes with three heat settings low, medium or high helping to suit your needs. It also comes with a built-in safety fall over feature, automatic Tip-over switch which is handy for all manner of reasons and at a price of 13 pounds I think this little heater is great value for money.
It is very light in weight making easy to move around and place in different rooms if the need be and is also durable and reliable I have had mine for a couple of years and it still works today.
Any kind of situation you may find yourself needing a little heat then look no further as this little heater will do a great job, this is a product people have bought because I told them about it and that is how much I like this heater I was completely satisfied with this purchase and is something I would certainly recommend. Oscillating Halogen Heater
by xxBeccaxx
I picked up this halogen heater last year after I discovered that as my son's room is an extension it was constantly freezing and despite the living room not needing heat I was forced to put the heating on so he wasn't cold when he went to bed. I originally set out looking for a small, cheap heater that I could pop on for an hour or so ... to warm up the room so it didn't have to be extremely powerful as the room is small. I also didn't need it to have any fancy features as it was going to be stored out of sight while not in use. I was browsing Amazon and came across this particular halogen heater on offer for just £7 at the time and i thought it had to be a bargain, so I ordered (using my Dooyoo vouchers as payment of course) and awaited it's arrival.
The heater came promptly although as usual with Amazon it came with double the packaging it needed which is not a reflection of just this product but of the company overall and it really irritates me. Anyway when it arrived I was pleased to find this is around the standard size of halogen heater, I had presumed that being so cheap it might have been a smaller version. It stands about knee height however this includes the carry handle at the top, even so for the price paid it is a good size I feel. It is grey in colour paler on the sides and deeper on the base which is an oval shape and the top, it does actually look quite stylish I think, even so I still store it at the bottom of the bed while not in use so it didn't have to look good but it is a bonus if it does and at least it's not a grubby white colour. The main panel where the heat radiates from is covered in a metal mesh with the bars underneath a bright glowing orange colour. Underneath the handle is where the buttons to work the heater are. There are 4 buttons in total, the first switched the heater on and off and is bright orange. The other buttons control the top and bottom bars as well as the turning mechanism that turns the heater from side to side spreading the heat in all directions rather than just the one.
Each bulb has 400 watts and of course the more bars that you have switched on, the more it'll cost to run however I have never found while using this heater that my electricity bill has been any higher than normal which I feel is excellent as I generally tend to put all the bars on just to take the chill out of the room. I have used this on many occasions over the past 18 months and I have still yet to replace any of the bulbs which I feel is excellent value, as I say I haven't used this for extended periods of time just an hour blast or so but normally every night in the winter months so it is pretty durable.
The twisting motion works but personally for me I stand it almost in the middle of the room as it's so flimsy and cheap feeling that I'm terrified it'll topple over and fall against the bed and set it on fire, to be fair it has never toppled over or anything it's just my fear of the quality of the build that worries me. It rotates at a nice steady pace and it does give a nice even heat around the room rather than making one portion toasty and the rest still rather cold. Another problem I find is that there is such a brightness off of this heater that although it does heat the room up to a comfortable temperature when my son goes to bed it has to be switched off as it does act as a lamp almost, the once I used this in the living room I turned off my lamp while the heater was in use as this provided sufficient lightening to browse the internet, it is a pitfall though as it means I can't pop it on for a half hour before I head up to bed to make sure my son's room is nice and comfortable throughout the night.
I have found the times I have had to move it around that it is extremely lightweight and easy to move from one room to another. I also find that in my sons room the cord length is sufficient however if I were to use it in the living room the cord doesn't stretch from the plug socket over to the main seating area, my house is extremely small and it's around a metre and a half and it can't reach over enough to warm up the seating area which is extremely annoying but as it is mainly used in my son's room it's not a problem.
Overall I think that this heater is a really good buy, it is slightly unsturdy and cheaply built but for the price that's not really a problem. The heater manages to heat my sons room sufficiently even in the middle of winter which is excellent I think, as I said this takes no extra electricity to use which is excellent as i am on a budget and being in winter and worrying about how high the bill is going to be I can relax when I'm using this heater. It's lightweight, a decent cord length but not quite long enough for my liking. It is however cheap and does the job which is the main point. I'd definitely recommend picking one of these up. Kudox Ladder Towel Warmer
by pink_glitter
When we bought our house there was no radiator in the bathroom, although the pipe work was all there. During the day the bathroom gets lots of sun so is reasonably warm even in the winter, however during the night it is absolutely freezing, something which is not helped by the fact that we have a slate tiled floor which is very cold ... underfoot. Although we managed to get through last winter OK, having some sort of radiator installed was high on my list of priorities for this year.
When it came to choosing a design we decided on a heated towel warmer as we felt that it would fit in well with the design of our bathroom which is quite modern. There were a few pre-requisites we had to consider when choosing a towel warmer...
* It had to be 450mm in width to fit the existing pipes
* It had to be flat rather than curved. This was due to the space where it was to be fitted being quite narrow and the potential that a radiator which curved outwards might be hit by the shower door. I also felt that a flat towel rail would give the illusion of extra space.
* I wanted a chrome finish as we have plain white tiles and I felt chrome would look better against them than white on white would.
* Finally, I wanted one that came in under £150 (not including fitting).
Our plumber recommended we go to B&Q as he told us they have the best deals, but to be fair I think we probably would have gone there anyway. My husband looked on the B&Q website (diy.com) and found this Kudox Ladder Towel Warmer in a chrome finish on a special web only offer of £50 (this offer has sadly now expired). Despite this price, it was still on sale in B&Q stores for the full retail price of £99 (a white version is also available for £75). To be honest the extremely low price of £50 seemed too good to be true and I insisted we go and have a look at it in person as I was convinced there must be something wrong with it for that price! On visiting a store and inspecting the towel warmer thoroughly, I was satisfied it was OK and we decided to go ahead and purchase it online, as being well under budget I would be able to use that money elsewhere in the house.
The towel warmer is suitable for use with central heating, which we have, or an electric element. It is described on the B&Q website as being easy to install, but whether you will want to attempt to install it yourself I guess depends on your level of expertise. The pipes that we had needed to be cut and have the valves changed and we also needed to drill into a tiled wall, so we decided we would be best leaving it to a professional. Our plumber charged £70 for fitting and this price included him supplying the valves which do not come with the towel warmer. He was able to get us a chrome plated TRV valve which matched very well with the towel warmer. These come in at anywhere between around £15 and £40 depending which one you get if you do plan to buy your own. To clarify a TRV valve is a Thermostatic Radiator Valve - basically a valve that allows you to control the temperature by turning a dial (most radiators have these now).
All wall fittings are included in the box along with bleed plugs. It's hard to say exactly how long it took to fit the towel warmer because the plumber was also doing some other work for us at the same time, but it was possibly around an hour and a half, not including time to drain the system which has to be done first.
When my towel warmer was fitted I was very pleased with how it looked. It is quite a basic design being a simple ladder style, yet I thought it looked quite good and I don't think the low price was too obvious! On the wall it sticks out 90mm so was flat enough that it would not be hit by either our bathroom or our shower door, which is what I wanted.
With this being a chrome plated finish it does attract fingerprints and I have noticed streaks and smudges appearing on it regularly, which although annoying I feel is to be expected. I tend to buff this with a dry cloth and avoid using any cleaning fluids on it as I worry about the chrome finish becoming worn. The warranty on the towel warmer is five years, however it only covers one year on the surface finish so it does worry me that it might end up looking shabby over time. We haven't had ours in for a full year, but so far I am treating it carefully and touch wood it still looks as good as new.
In use, the towel warmer is fully functional and again I have no complaints. It heats up very quickly and on the lowest setting it's lukewarm and provides just enough heat to take the bitter edge off the cold in the bathroom. On the fullest setting it does become very hot, yet not to a point it's dangerous. I usually keep it on the middle setting of three which is a nice balance.
The towel warmer will hold three folded bath towels comfortably on the largest spacings between the bars. It is difficult yet not impossible to put towels on the narrower of the bars. As it's only 450mm in width (incidentally the height is 974mm) it's not really ideal to put towels side by side either, as they would have to be folded up quite a lot. Whilst this may not suit everyone we are a household of just two so it's not a real problem for us.
To sum up, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this towel radiator. Although we got it at a special offer price, I would have happily paid the full price of £99 for it (although look out for offers). It looks good, is practical and functional, so it gets a big thumbs up from me. Read the complete review |
