Dimplex DXDFB2
by MEL0611
We have only just completed decorating our house and we moved just over two years ago now. We have 3 bedrooms and the smaller bedroom we have turned into what my other half likes to call the games room. It has a flat screen TV on the wall and a couple of gaming chairs and it looks really good, the only thing is, the room tends to get ... really cold. There are two outside walls and even though there is a small radiator in there, it does not seem to generate a lot of heat. When you are just sat there playing a game, you really do notice the cold and so we have decided to invest in a Fan Heater. We did a little bit of looking around and we have brought the Dimplex DXDFB2 Heater. Here are my thoughts on the product.
The heater is not the expensive, we brought ours from our local Sainsbury's and it cost us £24.99 which I thought was a very reasonable price. The Dimplex brand had a number of heaters on offer and for us to have a look at but as the games room is unofficially my other half's he chose the heater that had a football design on the top, I had to smile and we took it to the tills. The heater can also be purchased from other Supermarket's as well as Argos and online at Amazon.
The heater came well packed and upon opening we saw that it had a detailed instruction booklet as well as some health and safety advice. The heater is run of 2000 watts of heat and it comes with a 3 year manufacturer's guarantee. The heater is all white in colour, except for the black marks on the top of the heater which make the football up. I had to laugh at the design which my other half had chosen, especially as he is mid thirties but in all seriousness, I can see how this would look good in a child's room and just adds a little something else to the design. There is over a metre of electrical lead so you can plug this in and then position the heater to where you want and where feels safe, there is also a small carry handle on the heater so if you did want to move it around there is easy access to do so, it is approximately 1.35kg in weight.
The heater has two dials on the top of it, these allow you to control the temperature and the amount of heat that is coming out. There are two heat settings and a cool heat setting and there are 4 different variants at which you can have the heat coming out. We have only used this fan heater in the winter so we have not used this fan heater to cool a room down yet but we have been really impressed with how effective this fan heater is. It does not take long to heat the room up and it is also not too much of a dry heat as I cannot stand it when the heat is harsh and it affects your skin and leaves you de hydrated.
I have found that this is great at taking the chill off a room in an instant and it is also quite quiet so it is not like you have to let it rumble on and you have to wait to use the room. Whilst it is not something that you would want to be using all of the time, I think that is really effective for a quick fix and as I mentioned, taking the chill off a room.
This is a 5 out of 5 from me

Argos 2kW Upright White Fan Heater
by MikeBorry
~*~*~ Argos Value Range 2kW Upright White Fan Heater ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is an upright fan heater that has two heat settings and a cold air blow feature. It's small and practical and user friendly.
~ Why did I buy it? ~
I bought it as an alternative to the oil filled radiator ... I returned to Argos (see previous review). I needed something small as I wanted it for my kitchen as I didn't want the expense of putting on the central heating just to warm up the kitchen and after my success with the convection heater I previously bought I was hoping for good things with this too. I ended up getting this as the convection heater I was after was out of stock, but this was cheaper so I also saved some money too.
~ Appearance ~
To look at this is okay, it's not the most attractive heater in the world and isn't as funky as my pink one in the bedroom but it's okay. It's quite rounded and circular in shape with the bottom being flat making it sturdy to use, on the top is a handle and at the bottom on the left hand side are two control knobs, these are coloured in a pale grey, the rest of the unit is white in colour and is an easy wipe clean plastic making it ideal for use in the kitchen.
~ Ease of use ~
I find this very easy and simple to use and it also comes in handy in the summer as it has the option to blow cold air, it has two heat settings and a thermostat control which you put to your desired temperature.
It is as simple as that.
Of course it needs plugging in before use!
~ Overall Opinion ~
I have found that this heats up my kitchen within five minutes of it being put on. I put it on in the morning, get the boys clothes ready and then by the time I go back out to make a cuppa and their breakfast I find the kitchen has warmed up nicely.
I initially wanted a heater that I could slip under the table when not in use but this is so lightweight that it doesn't matter where I put it, I now have it in the corner of my very large windowsill as I tend to have to use it everyday but my son sometimes takes it up to his room if it's a little chilly in there.
In the warmer months it's handy to have it blowing the cool air around as my kitchen can get quite stuffy but I usually just put the ceiling fan on instead of using this. My son quite liked it in the nights in his room though!
Overall for the low price this is a superb heater.
~ Price and Availabilty ~
This is available from Argos stores or online at www.argos.co.uk.
It is priced at £13.99 but checking online it is currently on offer with 25% off making it a very purse/wallet friendly £9.99. (29/10/2012). When I bought it I paid around £11 so it must have been on offer then too.

Tesco FH11 Value Fan Heater
by nicholab85
We purchased this fan heater last winter, we were spending an absolute fortune using the heating so decided to give a portable heater a try, we wanted something small and compact as we have two children so very little space, but also something safe and practical with the little ones around.
After browsing the internet we ... decided to try the tesco value fan heater, it cost us £10 at the time although i have seen it in sales over the past year (£7 in our local tesco at one point!) so you may get it even cheaper if you are lucky! It came in a tesco value box and was within a plastic bag inside the box, made of white plastic with a grey grill on the front it isn't the prettiest but it is small enough to stash away in a cupboard when not in use so we wasn't to fussed about that.
The heater has two dials on the top, one for hot or cold and one for temperature setting, we tried it once for the summer as a regular fan but it wasn't great for that, it just blew out warm air and would probably have been more efficient to waft a piece of paper infront of my face! The heat setting however has been great for us, we have a relatively large living room and on full heat setting it can heat this room within about 20 minutes, we don't need to leave it on for long periods as we have very thick curtains and draft excluders below all doors so the heat is trapped in BUT if you do need to keep it on for long periods it has a safety feature that stops the heater over heating and it will cut out if it gets too hot so no need to worry about it. Another safety feature it has is if it falls over/ gets knocked over it will also cut out too which is a great feature for us with two kids running around!
It is very light weight and very compact (25cm tall, 12cm depth, 22cm wide) so it is extremely portable and great for use all around the home. It is a little noisy but that's to be expected and you do forget about it within seconds.
We have encountered one downside to this heater (apart from the inability to blow cold air) we have a very shaggy rug in our living room, we tried putting the heater on it but it wouldn't switch on (we discovered a small button on the buttom that must be pressed in for the heater to work) so it does need to be placed on a flat surface at all times.
Overall this is a great heater, cheap, compact, light weight, portable and easy to use. Read the complete review |
