Argos 2kW Convection Heater
Advantages: Fantastic, great price, heats up quickly, works well, warms room evenly.
Disadvantages: On occasion can dry out my mouth.
We are quite fortunate in that our property is generally lovely and warm and we only have to have the heating on for the odd days during the Winter. This Winter in particular has been a very cold one and we've certainly noticed the difference in our heating bills. Often we are only using one room in our home at a time and so I decided to look in to buying a heater. I did not want us to spend a lot on a heater as this would probably wipe out the first year of savings that we would make compared to having the heating on more often. This Argos Value heater fit the bill at just £21.99. This is currently just £19.99 so is even more of a bargain at the moment.
This heater looks quite standard to me. It is a white heater with black trim and feet. This probably doesn't look very expensive but as we generally have it out when guests aren't here we aren't too fussy at all. This heater is 39cm high, 11cm deep and 52cm wide. This means it is a reasonable enough size to work well but is simple enough to tuck down the side of one of my sofas when not in use or just slide in to my hall cupboard and taking up a small amount of space. The grill running the width of the top has lots of holes in three rows meaning that there is plenty of space for the hot air to escape. There is also three small rows of holes in the opposite direction by the bottom of this heater.
The main feature of this heater besides getting warm of course is that it has three different heat settings. I find this a fantastic feature as I can turn it down low if I just want to take the edge off a chill or turn it on the highest setting if I want it to warm the room thoroughly. There is a thermostat within which cuts out the heat once the temperature of your chosen setting has been reached. This means that the room doesn't get over heated nor does energy get wasted.
There is no waiting time for this to begin work and as soon as it is plugged in and switched on to your desired setting it gets to work blowing out hot air. This means that on the mornings when I wake up very early and find it very cold I can turn it on make a warm coffee and some toast and come back to find my lounge warming up nicely within just 5 or 10 minutes. The heat seems to be evenly distributed but if it is very cold I do sit quite close to this initially while the room gets warmed up.
Overall we have both been very pleased with this heater. The quality is fantastic for the price paid. While it can dry the air out a little and leave me feeling a little thirsty at times it works incredibly well at heating which is all we need it to do! The price of this is absolutely fantastic and this is the main reason that I am providing a rating of 5/5. I was not expecting something that would heat my room up sometimes within just 10 minutes and we have been using this for several months now with no problems at all. Because we do not have our gas on our combination bills have been cheaper this quarter than they were in the same quarter of last year and that is despite the weather seemingly colder here than it was last year (but perhaps that is just my imagination?).
Summary: A fantastic convection heater from the Argos value range.
