Advantages: Great value, kicks out a lot of heat, portable solution.

Disadvantages: Gives of a strong smell of burning dust and plastic.

We have recently moved into a temporary office at work and it is in part of a building which has been pretty much abandoned for the last few years, as a result and what with the less than summerlike weather we have had so far this year we have all been rather cold in our new home. I have a small fan heater which has historically sat under my desk for when it is cold but it is nowhere near powerful enough to warm the new space we have.

It therefore became apparent that a rather more substantial portable heater was going to be required and as such I was dispatched to Argos to find something suitable. I had had a quick look online before my visit so I knew pretty much which one I wanted, it was this 2KW convection heater priced at £19.99. Luckily they had one in stock so I picked it up straight away and returned to the office to try and get the temperature to somewhere near normal!

This heater is from Argos' value range and therefore it is pretty basic, as you would expect. However, it does all the things that you need and it actually kicks out a good amount of heat. We have found that having it on for a few hours in the morning is enough to take the edge off the cold for most of the day, at least until the sun gets round to our side of the building anyway. The heater has three heat settings and we have tended to use the middle one. I have a feeling come the winter the top setting will be very welcome but for now the middle one is fine.

There are two carry handles on this heater and it sits on two plastic base legs which make it quite stable and safe - all the same I would never leave this heater on if there was nobody in the room, you can never be too careful with this kind of product and in any event we are forbidden from doing so in an office environment.

There is a power on indicator which lights up and shows when the heater is in use, apparently this heater can be wall mounted and it came with a small bag of pieces to assist with this, however, we need this to be portable and therefore will not be wall mounting, I was quite surprised that such a 'cheap' product would provide this option but I think it is quite a good idea.

The safety leaflet which comes with this product points out that you should not cover the heater while it is switched on, to be honest I think this is common sense anyway and we would never do that. It does have a safety cut off switch which I assume would kick in if the heater was compromised in some way, hopefully we will never have to rely on this however.

My only gripe with this product is that it does tend to give off a fairly strong smell of burning dust and plastic after a few hours - we thought this would dissipate after a few weeks use but it has yet to go.

For under £20 this is a great little heater and provides a very decent amount of heat, we think it is great value and for us it has been the perfect solution to our problem.

Summary: A fab solution to heating rooms quickly and easily, great value item which does the job.
