~ What is it? ~
This is a handy little heater that will keep your warm through the winter months, it is cheaply priced and in my opinion a very handy item to own.
~ Why did I buy it? ~
From my previous reviews you may have gathered I really feel the cold and I hate it! And if you weren't aware that I disliked the cold so much, then you know now!
My house has high ceilings and is quite opened planned downstairs. I have a living room and dining room that is separated by an archway and then my kitchen is through a small passage way and there is no doors inbetween, so when it's cold it's cold right through. My living/dining rooms only have one radiator between them and that is located at the far end of the dining room (new radiators next week and will be having one put in the living room!) and then I have a chunky old fashioned/retro radiator in my kitchen so even when I put the heating on it never really gets warm for an absolute age!
So I thought it would be wise to invest in some electrical heaters and I was looking in the buyers bible - the Argos catalogue when I spotted this. I then went online and reserved it to my local store for collection that day.
Being cold is no fun and if this heater would help add an extra boost of warmth to the room then I would be a happy girl!
~ Appearance ~
The size is quite compact and small which I was quite surprised about, the heater stands at a teeny - H39cm, W52cm, D11cm so as you can see it is small but don't be put off by this, I like this as it means it can be easy tucked away out of sight when not in use.
The main body of the heater is white, the feet and corners are black as are the two switches and thermostat dial. Along the top of the heater is a grill that allows the hot air to escape into the room.
The black plastic on the corners are handles which make picking this up easy and it is light enough to move around the room or even the house.
It's a simple and basic heater but it looks fine in the corner or under the window.
~ Price and Availibilty ~
This heater is from Argos, you can either pop into store and buy it or you can go along to www.argos.co.uk and buy it online for home delivery but there will be an additional delivery charge when done this way. I would recommend collecting it if possible as it isn't a heavy item.
The price comes in at a very reasonable £19.99!
The price is what sold it to me as I just wanted a cheap but effective heater and it also boasted high reviews on the Argos website.
~ Ease of use ~
Getting this home and unpacking it from it's box I found that the only assembely needed was the assembely of the feet which was quite a simple process of screwing them into place. It has the options to be free standing or to be wall mounted. I wanted it free standing but should you wish to wall mount it the fixings are included in the box.
All it needed after putting the feet on was for it to be plugged in and switched on. I mainly use it in the evening and have it on the highest setting, when the room reaches the desired temperature the heater has a safety cut out which I think is great as I have fallen asleep on the sofa with this on so I think this is an important safety feature. Even though it has a cut out a light on the heater will remain illuminated to remind you that it is indeed still on and will need turning off.
~ Overall Opinion ~
I think this was a brilliant bargain heater, it is plain to look at but it doesn't scream cheap, and it will warm up my living/dining room completely in around fifteen minutes but when sat near the heater the heat becomes apparent within five minutes. I raved about this so much that my grandparents went and bought one for their conservatory as they like to sit out there in the evenings watching the wildlife around their garden and pond with a nice warm cup of tea and a sandwich, they have been very impressed with it too and it will warm up the whole conservatory in about five minutes which pleased them no end.
I had initial concerns about the smell that was coming from it but then I realised that is was probably down to trapped dust and the smell soon went and it is now fine. If I don't use it in a while and pop it in the cupboard under the stairs this smell will be there upon the first use but it disappears within the first hour or so of use.
The front can be easily wiped over with a damp cloth should it look a bit grubby.
I have nothing bad to say about this heater, it does what is expected of it and can be easily stored out of sight when not in use, and the fact that it has the option to be wall mounted makes it even better.
I have seen some reviews on Argos stating that the feet were awkward to get on and although I didn't have any problem with attaching the feet on mine, I thought it would be worth mentioning, people have stated it was fiddly but they got there in the end so I don't think it's a massive problem.
I have bought a few heaters since living in this home and I did have a few from my last home but I do think this Value Range heater is one of the best I own, having bought an oil filled radiator and not having a positive experience with it I would highly recommend this over that one! ( Review on that one to follow!)
Thanks for reading :o) x
Summary: A great value heater.
