Crown 1050W Halogen 3-Bar Heater
Advantages: Instant heat - portable - extra warmth alongside central heating
Disadvantages: The back of the unit gets very hot
**Fed up of the cold, despite having FULL central heating!**
We seem to have a house whereby all but 1 rooms are warm in summer. Our living room is soothingly cool during the summer, which is most welcomed being as the rest of the house is like a sauna! The only problem is, the living room is icy cold in winter! You certainly wouldn't think we had full working central heating blasting when sat in there.
With being on a pay as you go meter, our gas consumption is easy to see on a weekly basis. Just last Christmas during that awful snow and ice spell, our heating was gobbling up £50 per week which was absolutely ridiculous! £50 a week with the radiators on for 2 hours on a morning, maybe 2 in the afternoon, and 3 in the evening. We could have done with them being on all day, but there was fat chance at that price.
Sitting like the mitchellin man in a couple of jumpers and dressing gowns, with several other layers and blankets over me, became pretty miserable to say the least. My nose felt icy, the air around me was cold and the living room became a room I just couldn't relax in.
**Introducing the Halogen Heater!**
HOORAH for my cheapy £10 Halogen Heater! Thank you very much Mr Wilko's! Inexpensive, lightweight, instant heat and low running costs - you really couldnt' ask for more in a heater for just £10.
The heater is very compact and is just two and a half feet hight and about 18 inches wide. The setting buttons on the top give the choice of heat level and whether or not you want the heat to rotate or stay generating in one place.
I have a fairly medium average sized front room and so one heater is not enough to heat the whole room, but it does make a difference if you are sat in its path. We've actually invested in another 1 now because it means both hubby and I can sit with one each. It's not a MASSIVE increase in temperature for the whole room, but if you're snuggled up on the sofa, with a heater not far from you, you DEFINATELY Feel the heat and feel alot more relaxed. No more cold nose and fingers, thats for sure!
**Great in small rooms**
We have a small conservatory/utility room that is like a sauna in the summer and antartica in the winter. It's a room that I can't avoid though during the cold spells because my chest freezer and washing machine are in there. Since having the halogen heater, its nowhere near as bad to have to spend 20 mins in there sorting washing out. Becuase the room is quite small, the heater does a good job of heating the whole room up, not to the point of being able to walk around in a tshirt, but if you have a jumper on, you will be nice and snug.
With the heaters being portable, it's nice to have them in the bathroom on a cold morning as well. Our lil fella used to get cold getting into the bath, even with the radiator on, so the halogen warms the room so that it's nicely warm.
With using a pre-payment meter for electric as well, I can honestly say I have not noticed a particular change in useage. We tend to spend about £10-£12 per week and this has included the odd few hours useage of our heater in the colder months. It's certainly not going to have a drastic change on costs for families I don't think, as we tend to have alot plugged in anyway with 2 teenagers in the house. It would however be noticed by perhaps elderly people with less electrical equipment running. It's still got to be cheaper that having the central heating blasting though!
**Be aware of**
Definately be aware of little ones around these heaters. I don't tend to get mine out if my lil fella is around. The back of the unit can get really hot as well, so keep it away from anything that could catch alight, ie covers, papers, other furniture.
Summary: A GREAT buy for just £10!
