Dmplex Wall Mounted Fan Heater FX20V
We had two of these in our old house, which was actually quite new, having been built badly in the later 1990's. For some reason there was no central heating fitted and it sported a nifty fake chimney!
Anyway the only heat source apart from the swearing because it was so Bl@@dy cold in the kitchen was one of these little beauties on the wall. There was a non working night storage heater in the adjacent hall and both faced a chilly north. The second identical little wall mounted fan heater was in the bathroom.
This little heater is just what it is! Looks exactly as it does in the photo. It hangs on the wall face down and has a pull cord to operate it. Measuring approximately 24 x 18 x 6 cm (very approx as I've not measured it!) White with black coloured fins where the warm air comes out. They are simply either on or off.
Well in the kitchen the heater was a waste of time, the only way to keep warm out there was to pop a coat and scarf on as you left the sitting room and if washing up, do so quickly with very hot water - before it goes cold. In fact the heater had such little impact it was soon relegated to a handy pen holder. (By the way - I'm not joking, unless the oven was on it really was that cold, even after the fan heater had been run for 1 hour).
In the bathroom, the heater would need to be put on at least half an hour before stripping off in there and then again only if using very hot water. We soon abandoned that as a form of heat as well and used a free standing oil filled radiator instead, which had the added bonus of taking drying racks to dry washing on. Indeed, that along with the extractor fan when it became steamy or condensation began to run became the normal way of heating the room. However, our ancient free standing heater's thermostat began to go wrong, so whilst that was being repaired the fan heater made a bit of difference during the spring time. But they are not up to the job in the winter. However, its best use was to use the pull string as a holder for fluffy air fresheners!
Both rooms are very small. However, it is impossible to entirely blame the heater, as the house had no insulation, other than in the loft and the north side was shaded by trees, so never really built up any heat. Maybe in a different scenario these heaters would perform better? I'd like to think so, because for us they were a big FAILURE. It was frequently warmer outside than in that house!
Did not make much difference.
There are far better heaters out there. Don't bother.
Anyone who likes wasting money! Seriously, don't bother.
Stars; 2 out 5 Because in a different scenario they might work better?
