Advantages: great when working

Disadvantages: easily broken

Shockingly brilliant when I first bought it, it heated the entire room if I kept the doors and windows closed and sealed off any unwanted drafts. Things were going really well until, oops...(accidentally knocked it off from a table whilst vacuuming and caught the cable) and from then on, became my best of worst enemies.

One of the features I liked about it when it was in functioning condition, is that there is an installed thermometer that turns itself off when it has reached a point of satisfactory heat (even if you still feel cold), but can control it so that it does more of what you expect if you keep it at level 1. Like a computer, it is programmed to instruction and therefore needs plenty of patience and understanding if you use a higher setting than that of level 1. I also liked the fact that it isn't ugly and is very light-weight.

This product is compact enough to store anywhere in any room but not great to heat a large living space that is more than 20 meter's in length and diameter. It is excellent value for unexpected emergencies in winter months as well as hums to you as it generates and builds in heat. I often felt like I had a robotic pet in the room and found myself telling it to be quite, especially whilst concentrating on these reviews!

I soon got agitated by it's nuisance but more so when it coughed up bits of heat then momentarily failed to exhale after the accident. It went from one dramatic sound to another every time I moved it to see if it would stop the noises but it reluctantly kept on. I sort of felt sad for it and really wanted to do something to get it repaired but lost the warranty and receipt etc that came with it and came close to throwing it in the shed but didn't want to do that because I became very attached and felt guilty that I had been the cause of it's troubles.

The problem is with this cute dimplex is that it has two eyes on top of the head and a mouth that wants to speak to you and it does if you consider the humming as a kind of speech! - I sort of humanized it as I do most electrical things that live with me for some time.

I found myself torn between wanting to cut ties with it, but still keeping it in case it just needed a long respite to recover from the accident. I felt angry at myself for sometime after it failed to work completely and felt as if I had caused the death of an innocent little friend. How sad is this?

It really did try to heat up when it broke down, so shows that is a pretty solid make in terms of circuitry but prone to failure if it is easily knocked over from a reasonable height. So overall, this is an extremely fragile heater with a rocket inside of it that once it fails to launch: needs to be discarded unless you want to keep it as a trophy.

Summary: design must be shock-proof if it is to be of excellent value
