Dimplex Electric (Night) Storage Heater
Our old house did not have the benefit of central heating, it did however have some other heat sources fitted, including some night storage heaters and this is the one that was in our bedroom.
The heater was on the wall under the window in our bedroom. An off white colour with grey trim and the heat controls are positioned on the top right hand side.
793mm long x 706mm height x 146mm deep.
We had no operating instructions for the heater and it took a bit of time to work out how to set it up and use it. Eventually, we discovered that leaving it on a low setting it would only work if required and heat the special bricks overnight when electricity was cheaper and release the heat during the day. The only problem with that system is that we were out at work during the daytime and the heat would have been dispersed and used by the time we did require some heat at 21.30 in the evening. We then discovered two more ways to make the heater work better for our needs, 1st by ensuring the dial was set to not put heat out, until the we arrived home in the evening, helped; as although the bricks had cooled somewhat by then there was still some warmth to be realised at the time of day we needed it. Additionally, in colder weather we put the override on to heat the room before we went to bed.
Our electricity usage substantially increased when using these heaters on anything more than the very lowest settings.
Yes, these heaters are not an adequate source of heat. During the very long, prolonged cold weather of a few winters ago, despite boosting the thermostat up on the heater, we could not get the room warm enough to keep the cold air out and I had serious problems with breathing difficulties, until we added a convector heater to the room as well.
I think this style of heater would be adequate in a well insulated house where alternative heating is not available, to be fair the poor build quality of the house and lack of adequate insulation, probably did not help. But, in very cold weather the night storage heater was not adequate for our needs.
Where there is no Gas or Oil central heating, but there is good insulation.
