Lloytron 3 bar halogen heating - bringing warmth into life......
Member Name: julwhite
Advantages: Quite robust and good value
Disadvantages: A little easy to be knocked over
This review is for the Lloytron oscillating halogen heater which I purchased as I needed to occasionally heat a room without a radiator, and this seemed to be a cheap solution to do this.
I had never previously heard of the Lloytron brand, but it appears that they are an importer and distributor of electrical goods, and have been going for some time. They also appear to have a reputable name, so the quality should be at least reasonable for their products.
The unit comes well boxed and well packaged, and comes with a small instruction book, although it's really not necessary to read this to understand how to use a similar heater such as this. It does though have some safety advice, which it's always of course worth reading.
It's a surprisingly light heater as well, so is easy to transport either after purchasing in its box, or if needing to move the heater around. This does make it much more useful than some of the clunky bigger heaters that are harder to lift. It is also relatively small, so will fit into a corner of a room if necessary.
The heater has three different heat settings, 400 watts, 800 watts and 1,200 watts, and although the temperature will vary from location to location, I never needed to change from the middle settings, which was enough to heat a room quickly and keep it warm. So from my experience it's powerful enough to heat one room on its middle setting, so could likely heat a garage or similar construction on its most powerful setting.
I bought this heater over a year ago, and it has been reliable since then, although rarely used. I discovered after knocking the unit over that it has an in-built function to switch itself off if knocked, which is a useful safety precaution. Although the heater might be robust, it doesn't take a huge amount to knock it over, so with children or animals, a little extra care would of course be advisable. In terms of noise, heaters of course don't usually make much noise, and nor do this one, so that it's a problem.
In terms of robustness, it seems to be quite sturdy and well made, or certainly as much as could be expected for this price. I've bought a heater at Argos before, admittedly very cheap, which seemed very cheaply made, so in comparison to that, this is a robust piece of kit. Cheaper heaters can of course be purchased rather than this one, but of all the products that I prefer to be a bit more robust and well made, a heater is one of them.
I bought this heater for around 25 pounds as it was on offer at a small discount at a local department store, and there are some currently being retailed for 23.17 pounds including postage on Amazon, so the prices haven't much changed. The model that I bought was in black, but I understand that there is also a version in white, although I can't see this for sale on Amazon.
There is also a four bar heater which is available which is otherwise the same as this model and which costs just a few pounds more. Although this wasn't a selection when I purchased mine, as I'd have probably gone for that one, it transpires that I wouldn't have needed a more powerful heater anyway.
Overall, I'd recommend this heater for a price of under 25 pounds, it's robust and has done its job well of heating a medium sized room on its medium setting, so is likely to be powerful enough to heat a larger room. For the money, it seems a very reasonable purchase.
Summary: For under 25 pounds, represents good value
