Last year we bought two hi-fis, both by Aiwa. One was the NSX-S555 (also reviewed on this site) and the other the XR-M11. The XR-M11 is a mini hi-fi, featuring he usual cd player, tuner and single tape. But what is noy usual is the quality of the sound this unit produces. It features a system called Q-Sound Virtual Surround Sound, and it actually works, sounding almost as good as surround sound system itself. The unit doesnt produce massive bass, but in the rest of the sound range it surpasses every other system I've heard. Its sounds remain crisp and clear at any volume, and the surround sound system fills the room with vibrant sound. I heard sounds on this system that just weren't audible on other systems even though it was the same song. It also features pre-sets on the tuner, and auto-reverse etc. Unfortunately no optical out for mini disc is present. Also featured are 4 modes that shape the sound to suit the style of music, Rock, Pop, Classical and Jazz. All the functions are operated from one jog-dial, the unit also has the option to be used as an alarm clock. This is a great purchase especially given the £130 price point, it seems almost too good to beleive. One point to note is that our first unit developed a broken CD drawer after a few days, and we had to seek a replacement. It was exchanged easily and the new one has ran without trouble. If you looking for a good system at a reasonable price point, then stop looking...
