Advantages: Great Sound and Functions

Disadvantages: Inability to Play Quietly!

My intention was not originally to go out and buy a Hitachi AX-M5 HiFi but a vertical load Hitachi Micro System. The model I now have was substituted by Argos when the stock of my original choice had been depleted. I am now extremely pleased that I accepted the new product.

The Micro System outputs 30W per speaker which is more that most within this price range, and more that my original choice, all for the same price. The player contains all of the expected functions, programmable CD Player, RDS Radio, Auto Reverse Cassette player.

Other advanced features include the ability to programme names for all of the radio stations, including MW and LW, which would not normally be allowed by the automatic naming from the RDS System.

This system is very loud for a small Hi-Fi and I have found that it is not possible to listen to music late at night without waking people!! The output, however, is superb, both the treble and bass are so clearly defined, and the extra settings for Pop, Rock and Jazz music actually make a difference unlike some systems. The sound is much clearer than I have ever heard before from a sub £130 Hi-Fi.

The Hitachi AX-M5 is the same model as the AX-M7 apart from the mini disc player, which is not included.

Just recently I have purcahsed a Pioneer DVD Player, from which I have output the sound too the Hitachi Hi-Fi, via Phono cables. I am amazed with the quality of audio reproduction.

Unfortunately I have not seen this product in most of the electrical stores. Therefore, it may be worth checking with Argos to see if this product is still being sold as a replacement product.
