Advantages: good quality sound

Disadvantages: has to left on standby

We had a JVC stereo system for 10 years without a problem - then the CD player had a few problems - so it was time to upgrade.

We decided to stick with JVC because of the reliability with our old system. We chose this particular model because of the features.

Cd Player

This features three cd trays. The CD's will be played in order 1 - 2 - 3 unless you choose otherwise, this is continuous play. There is a random function which will choose tracks from any cd in no particular order. You can program up to 32 tracks of your choice. Finally there is a repeat function which will allow you to repeat a CD or single track. The CD trays can be locked to prevent little fingers pulling out your favourite CD!

FM/AM radio

When you turn on the radio it will automatically re-tune to the previous stations that was played. You can preset 30 FM stations and 15 AM stations (didn't know there was that many!). The only problem with tuning in stations is that there is a time limit on the setting function - you only have so many seconds to enter the program number and store it before it goes back to the previous station. Also, the memory will be lost after a few days if the power is disconnected from the system.

Tape Cassettes

There are two cassette decks - one for playing one way and one which allows reverse mode play. This means at the end of the tape the system reverses and starts playing the other side. This is particularly useful when recording. Tapes can also be dubbed which saves time.

Other Features

The unit is always on standby - this is so that the memory is not erased. There is a timer function which allows you to program the system to go to standby. The main buttons of the system (tape/CD play record buttons etc) are on the rolling panel. This is a panel which opens when the system is turned on.

Sound modes allow you to change the preset sound modes - Dance Club, Hall
, Stadium, Rock, Classic, Pop. I like the idea that you can use a preset sound mode but it would be nice if you could adjust the bass, treble etc manually to suit. We have found that sounds we were getting from our old system on certain tracks have been removed by the sound modes. The sound modes can only be used on playback and not recording.

There is a remote control which is used to control all the above features.

Speakers

There are two speakers which are of a very high quality. The sound is very sharp and clear. They have a power level of 100W

This is a very good system indeed. We're not really into sub woofers and all that malarky so this system is ideal. Basically it plays our CDs, allows us to listen to the footie on radio 5 and record CD's for the car.

The cost of this system was £269.99 which amazed us because I think you get a lot for this price. A very good system which meets our needs and more importantly plays our cds!
