JVC MX KC68
Advantages: Great sound quality, iPod dock, surround- sounds like a 5.1 system
Disadvantages: Design, cable length
This is a very ugly hi- fi system, but don't let that put you off, it is a very well features and powerful machine. At £179.99, it is a reasonable price for a 3.1 speaker system.
To see their sound quality, I tested them over five tracks of varying audio: classical, spoken word, pop, metal and electronic- these provide a good range of pitch types and dynamic changes. These speakers gave a great bass tone, it went right through the walls (but not in an annoying club- like way). They treble sound was also excellent, not too high to sound tinny, but neither was it too smooth. Sound quality- top notch.
The surround sound is very effective, two speakers for left and right, the remaining for the centre. This does provide a good (cheaper) alternative to a 5.1 system in terms of surround and sound quality.
There is an iPod dock as well, this proves very useful for parties, etc.
The remote woks very well, at any angle you point it at. Also, the maximum volume is very impressive- it really shook the floor.
Not much to say on the 'bad' front, other than that the design is a little dated and the cables would be a little short for a large room.
Overall, this is an outstanding price for such a brilliant piece of equipment.
Summary: Definitely worth it, the only home speaker system you'll need.
