I have had this Hifi set for over 5 years now, and it's been in use for at least ten hours a week. I use it when I'm cleaning the house, and yes, it can still be heard clear as a bell over the top of the hoover, on half volume. Thats the stunning thing about this thing, it's cheap but good quality, and very loud!
The sound quality does not deteriorate at higher volumes, it still sounds just as refined, but strangely it does loose quality at lower volumes. When you have the volume on -72db or less it sounds very crackly, like radio static over a track, and when you are trying to listen to it quietly this sound drowns out the music a great deal.
Mechanically it's in tip top condition despite being filled with dust on the the inside, which I can't get out, not good for cleaning the outside then, especially as the speakers have metal covers on, and you can't get into the back.
For sound quality at normal volumes however, it's just epic. That subwoofer may be small but it really kicks out some oomph, and with all the preset EQ's you get, you can change the way the music sounds to suit the genre, so for heavy metal, you'd choose heavy and this really sharpens up the bass guitar and vocals. It does have an excellent sound from the tweeters too, where vocals sound almost live, and symbol crashes sound like they are right next to you. Bearing in mind this is a very old model, it's sound is beyond expectations.
Although it has a lot of power, you don't really need it. This stereo is more for sound quality, and that's what I bought it for. Anything up from -40db is very loud.
The LED display is very accurate and also allows you to change the VU meter to peak at high points in the music, but it does have a lot of customisable features besides this, like the EQ's, dimmer, demo mode, and play all discs or play 1 disc.
The remote is well built and has more functions than the unit itself, but as with all Panasonic stuff, there are a few confusing buttons with writing on, that do nothing when you press them, and aren't referred to in the manual.
Overall, it's a great system, and you can normally get them used for less than £40 nowadays - Bargain!
Bought this for myself a couple of years ago and i've still got it now, as a fan of playing music loud i needed a system that was capable of playing loud music, but maintaining the quality of the song. This system does that, easily, you can turn it up so loud that the room shakes and it still plays in astounding quality. It's very easy to use aswell, although at first glance the remote control which comes with it can seem a bit confusing. Also, another downside is that for somebody with not a lot of knowledge of cd players / hifi systems, the eq buttons on the system can seem very confusing, and you may end up having to push the buttons in order to find out what they do! In general though, i have to say that i'd give this system a 4/5 because it has great sound quality and the 5 cd interchanger really comes in handy!
