A sleek and well designed music dock/CD player from Philips, making it a very versatile hifi system. Sound quality is surprisingly loud and crisp. Radio function is dissapointing however.

      A funky stereo

I found this hifi player which is made by Philips in Asda for £70 which is nearly half what it cost when it came out. The Hifi looks brilliant and it has a black shiny design that is thin so it does not take much room up on whatever unit you want to display it on.

I have not fully embraced digital music and I still buy CDs so it was necessary that I had a system that I could play both my digital sounds on my ipod and play my CDs.

It is quite a large system and it is tall but its flat so that is ok you can use the wall mount to mount it on a wall or you can use in on a table top. This has an ipod dock in the middle that charges it and plays it. You can also plug any mp3 player in by USB so it is not a purely ASpple ipod compatible system. The system also has a radio but this is not a good radio and you have to spend ages moving the little wire around which is like the ariel and you have to wiggle it until your station sticks and gets reception. The FM tuner does have presets but if you turn this off at the mains then all these get lost.

The CD player is a front loader with a viewing window and this looks very modern and stylish. The CD player is a little flimsy inside though but it has not had any issues with my discs. The sound is really good you can have deep bass and you can turn it up loads without any horrible noises. I like this system and I find it makes my music on CD or on digital to be really good. I like how it sounds and I like it that I can really crank it up, although with my thin walls I do not get to do this very much.

The best thing about this is how stylish it is. It is sat on the unit in my living room and it looks very expensive and it looks very modern. I am so glad I bought it. I am disappointed by the poor radio capacity though as I do like to have the radio on in a morning while I am getting ready for work. I think they should have made this a little bit better. The speakers are the best bit, they give such good sound quality and my music sounds brilliant. I would quite happily use this system for a house party as the music is loud enough to carry. The ipod dock is good but it does not charge phones which is weird about the music still plays. There is no Bluetooth or anything with this set though which would have been useful to have.

I think £70 represents good value for money for a Philips set that look more expensive than it actually is.
