** Introduction **
Recently purchased this Hi-Fi system produced by Pioneer from eBay for £129 as it had an opened box but was still new, having done a tad research first I realised that these unit's had previously sold for over £300 so to be honest thought I was in-line for a great bargain, however like most bargain hunters was overly disappointed when I began to use my purchase which seemed to just not wan't to work effectively for me. The radio works fine all of the time and along with the iPod dock these are about the only functions which do.
** Why This Model **
Well as with any relationship we have to at first at least like what we are looking at before we are ready to explore more about it, the design of the product is second to none. It looks stunning, consisting of a black and silver modern look, with the dock attached at the front and the speakers to either side of the unit, just looking at it makes you wan't to play with it!!
** A Bit More Detail **
The X SMC5 is an all in one sound unit featuring CD/DVD Player, iPod/iPhone dock aswell as wireless AirPlay, Bluetooth and DLNA streaming, and FM and internet radio.
Disks load from the top of the unit, USB and Audio inputs at the front and HDMI output at the back.
As a keen fan of Pioneer I expected nothing but the best from the system, after having much experience with the CD Decks and Mixers within the Pioneer range quality and reliability is usually at the fore-front of the product.
The sound quality received from the system is Good, however NOT amazing. These is the major downfall in my opinion as it has all the features it could need, its easy to setup and operate and although it does reach a good level of volume, bass and clarity is compromised at higher outputs. Perhaps I should keep my positive thoughts as Pioneer as manufacturing quality audio players rather than audio output systems (speakers). This is the first Pioneer Hi-fi system we've ever owned and to be honest in comparison to our old Technics system the sound can not be compared. This unit is much more compact and a lot easier for transportation but if your searching for that perfect clear sound then this is definetly not the product I would be advising you to buy. However on the other-hand if you would like a fairly decent home stereo system for a pretty average price range then this is a good buy.
** A Few Issues **
Copy Disks - Absolute nightmare, I do purchase a lot of original music from the shops still although have a lot of personal tracks on my PC, when burning these to disc to use on my player I am welcomed by a disc error message, however this seems to be an intermittent fault as removing and replacing the disc several times eventually gets the player to read and playback the disc. Most disks play fine, however if there is any form of dust, light scratches anything on the disc then the unit is bound to cause you difficulty.
When you consider the type of quality product that the CDJ is which is designed and built by Pioneer with the ability to quickly load and CUE CD's in a nightclub environment with shed loads of Bass in comparison to this home small unit which struggles to play normal discs in normal environments. Something clearly went wrong at the drawing board, better get banging your heads together Pioneer, something much better will need to be made available soon to make up for the shoddy work packed in to this kit.
Apologies if this seems a bit negative but I feel i've covered the area's which I really like and simply dislike about this product.
