This modern and compact Hifi has been in my posession for over 7 years now, and has served me very well. The speakers are of very high quality (I am a bit of a speaker anorak) and are around 5W each, so for a little unit they do pack a punch. They are good enough quality for a small room, and clearly last a while! It has handy features like a sleep-timer so you can set it to go off after a certain amount of time, and also a wake-timer so you can set it to come on in the morning (or whenever you like for that matter) for a certain amount of time. There is also a recording timer, where you can set a casette to record for the amount of time you like. I don't think I have ever used this feature and probably never will but if you still record music off the radio onto casette then you can with this unit! The only problem I have had with this hifi is that the CD player part is often a dodgy - it often doesn't play the CD or takes a good while to register that there is one in. It is a bit of a pain but thanks to the 2 phono external input at the back I have managed to hook up the DVD player to it so I can play CDs through that.
We won this micro system a while ago when it was worth quite a lot so we were quite pleased! We decided to keep it and made good use of it. We still use it nowadays as it's quite functional with a cassette and CD player built in. The sound quality is quite impressive, which wasn't too surprising as this is made by Sony, who tend to produce high quality sound. - Design - The micro system looks extremely contemporary with it's wooden speakers blending in nicely with the metal face of the main piece. Each speaker is made of a lovely light wood. They have a 4 inch sub woofer in each along with a little but powerful speaker. A silver Sony label is on top of the speaker cover, which is grey. The main piece of the set is roughly the same size as each speaker but has a bit more depth. The hi-fi has quite a simple design. The screen has an orange tint to it when it's switched on with black digital writing on it. It displays things such as the track number and time of the track. The top half of the piece contains controls for the CD aspect and the CD is inserted on the top of the system. A very nice metal scroll wheel, which is extremely smooth and pleasant to use sits on the front of the system and is used to adjust the volume. On the bottom half is the cassette deck and the same controls are used for this. It's very easy to use and it looks wonderful, suiting any modern room very well. - Sound Quality - This thing can reach quite amazing sound levels and still retains great clarity. The bass is quite powerful and the treble is very crisp. As you turn the smooth volume wheel, it turns up the volume surprisingly quickly so it's best to be careful so you don't deafen yourself. The wheel does have small tactile clicks when you turn it so you can tell when you're turning it up a notch and the volume level is displayed on the screen too. This system can produce sound just as good as any system nowadays. - General Use - As well as for playing CDs and cassettes, you can also copy material from cassettes to CDs using the CD synchro recording. You can shuffle, programme and repeat songs with the basic controls. The good size 5 foot speaker wires enable you to place them apart so you can fill a small room with excellent sound. Ours is currently in the kitchen although it would suit any room such as a bedroom, office or living room. I have another Micro Hi-Fi made by Philips but this one is certainly better quality and of a similar age. I think the design is very contemporary and it sits very nicely in our kitchen. It's extremely easy to use due to the fact it doesn't have too many functions. It's ideal for anyone who wants to play CDs or cassettes in top quality rather than messing around with hi-tech systems, which you don't need. The system comes with a good size remote, that can be used to controle the CDs and cassettes. - Conclusion - This item is obviously discontinued as it's quite old now (over 5 years). However the quality is brilliant and I love the design. The wooden speakers are very unique and fit contemporary rooms very nicely. The sound quality is as brilliant as a new system you will buy today. There is one on eBay at the moment with a starting price of just £3.00. I imagine you could buy a second hand one for around £50-70 if you are lucky depending on condition. Thanks for reading! :)
