      If you want good loud sound and great looks, its worth checking out!

      As you can see from the pictures this is a very chic, black "minimalist" style Hi-Fi, but don't be fooled by it's lack of flashing lights and chrome.

      I have owned this for 18 months and have always been impressed with the sound quality. I like my music loud and undistorted and on this count the Sony is a winner - personally I have never listened to it for long over 75% power as it is too much!

      If appearance and sound quality are all you are interested in then this is one for you.
      I plugged my daughters iPod into the neat top dock (which comes with adapters for different generation iPods) and the controls using the remote were very good.
      Plays CD & MP3 CD's well, although "tree" navigation on MP3's was a bit confusing.

      However, there are a couple of issues:
      The display is hard to read and the input controls on top are not the most intuitive and being all black with dark markings on them, they can be hard to read and see when you are having a "moody" evening!. I guess we are being spoiled with touch screen now, but it can be a bit frustrating.

      DAB radio - love the idea of this but in practice I always end up going back to the FM frequencies as the stuttering and signal drop are so frustrating. I tried hanging the aerial wire all over the place but with little improvement - may just be reception in my area, but it is allegedly "good".
      The speaker cables are a bit short - it seems like they intend you to have this on a book case or unit, but if you like your speakers spaced apart, invest in some extension wire.

      Super little machine that pumps out some good sound.

      I was mainly looking for a a mini system for my son as he was also playing his music on my equipment. So Christmas was coming up and we looked together on the Internet for a suitable hi-fi system that would suit his needs. My son has an Apple iPod now so we need to furnish him with a piece of equipment that would cater for an iPod. We quickly came across the Sony CMTBX77DBI Mini Hi-fi. I thought at first that it was a bit highly priced, but hoped it would serve my son for at least five long years.

      We ordered it from Amazon and it arrived within four days. The packaging was amazing, there was enough bumble wrap to fill a small room, so we were off to a flying start. On Christmas day my son excitedly opened the package and was very pleased with what he saw.

      THE SPEC:
      Sony CMTBX77DBI Mini Hi-fi, which was accompanied by speaker cables, an AC pluf mains adapter, FM aerial and an easy to use installation guide. The system pumps out a massive 50 watts of volume which is too our detriment of course! But it certainly fills our sons bedroom, which is 6 meters by 5 meters. The unit was dead easy to set up - just plug it in, pop your MP3 player onto the top slot and you're good to go.

      As a music producer I was totally surprised by the clarity of sound that the smallish system was throwing out. It's a fab all rounder and can cope easily with playing your favourite MP3s, CDs and anything that you wish to listen to on an FM radio.

      Also included is a remote control, although my son really doesn't appreciate its usage. You can also plug in another source via the units auxiliary input such as CD player, mixer, phone, laptop etc. And the unit is so easy to manoeuvre about which means that you can enjoy your listening experience anywhere inside the house.

      I'd certainly recommend this to any parent

      Purchased from Amazon for £125 including delivery

      A great product well worth its price!!

      Living in a student house, we wanted something that would be easy to play music from, which was loud, with great sound and that we could connect our iPods to. I stumbled across this on amazon and we thought it looked perfect, although a little more than we had wanted to pay at just under £120.

      The design is very simple and very stylish, we all really liked it and the way it looked once it was set up in our living room - very modern. The two speakers were very convenient, and were easy to move around to get the best sound in the room.

      The sound is perfect. You can play from mp3 through the iPod dock, using a CD or simply listen your favourite digital radio station! You can set it on to repeat a song, or all songs, and it even has a shuffle button.

      Some quick specs for those looking for something in particular:

      Treble Adjustment - Treble (+4, -4)
      Bass Adjustment - Bass (+4, -4)
      (The bass is excellent, on high volume with bass up, the walls were vibrating!)

      CD-R Playback - YES
      CD-R with MP3 Playable - YES
      CD-RW Playback - YES
      (Basically, you can burn your own CDs and listen to them on this system, very handy, and it works!)

      Power Output: Music Power (W) 2 x
      38 W
      Power Output: RMS (W) 2 x
      25 W

      Audio Input - YES (x1 front 3.5mm)
      (using an audio cable, you can even hook it up to your laptop or tv)

      Headphone Out - YES (3.5mm)
      (not that you would ever need it!)

      Only downside is that it doesn't have a CD changer or preset equaliser!
      I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to to fill their home with great sound!

        Excellent Sony quality!

        I have always purchased Sony products becaus I believe that the quality is always excellent. Before I purchased this model, I had an older versions which had no iPod dock, I could connect my iPod via an aux cable but that is such a pain! I then stumbled across this online. I read a few reviews on it and thought it was worth a try. There are so many cheap iPod docks out there, but I thought that I may as well spend more money on a quality item that would last a long time. I am so glad i did because this is simply excellent.

        I paid £149.99 for this product, looking at the prices now I wish I hadnt paid so much!! Amazon are selling it for £99 which is really well priced! I don't regret getting it, I just regret the really high price that I paid for it.

        Once I received it I took it straight out the box and fell In love with it straight away! It looks really stylish and the black finish is dome to a high standard. The actual iPod dock is on top of the stereo box and looks really good with the iPod on it. It's a really fashionable piece of kit. It comes with two speakers which also look vey nice. It's not too large and looks great ontop of my bedRoom cupboard.

        I then turned it on and started to play music through it. I was amazed at how loud it could go for such a small thing. It sounded so amazing! The quality is great and it doesn't distort at high levels. I like the amount of bass provided. It's not too overpowering. This speaker system is great for any type of music. I like pop, rap, rock, some classical and loads of other music styles and it plays them all to a really high standard. There are some setting you can use to change the sound quality also.

        It has a nice screen which displays what settings you are on. It is very clear and well designed. I found it really easy to set up and very easy to use. Sony have always produced a reaally high standard of hifi systems and this one will not let you down! It is reliable, stylish and made to a high standard. It may cost way more more than others similar on the market, but as I have said before, you pay for the quality in the knowledge that you have a well built product.

        I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new speaker system who owns an iPod. It can fit into small spaces, but wouldmt look out of place in a large room. It could fit on your desk! It's perfect and I am chuffed to bits with it. Make sure y.ou search around for a good price. I didn't and wish I had! There are a few offers on it so have a look.

        Thanks for reading my review :)

        Great value for money

        As a mini sound system the Sony mini hi-fi does well to fill a whole room with high quality sound for the size of its speakers, you can't expect such a small machine with small speakers to be heard over a crowd like a party, but it delivers good quality sound to a small audience and is great to have in a bedroom or a small/medium sized room.
        What i like about this sound system is not only can you attach your Iphone/Ipod to the speakers, you can still use CDs if you had a CD you wanted to play on it !
        It also comes with the ability to play the radio and comes with 30 standard radio stations all ready programmed in, there is also no interference between the ipod/iphone and the HI-fi system whilst playing the radio so this is another plus side to the system.
        Above all of this, not only are you getting all these wicked features with the Sony mini Hi-Fi sound system you are also getting it at a relatively low price, making this item a must buy because of its excellent value for money.

        Well priced, this is a stereo to keep most people more than happy.

        I have been best pals with my Sony Hi-Fi over the years, and many of their other products. I currently have a very old and dated looking Sony micro system in my bedroom that still produces a great sound and works as it did when it was made during the last ice age. This is why the more up to date model caught my eye when looking to replace the £35 local supermarket CD player that has sat in our living room making funny noises for the last few years.

        My plan
        ```````
        I was looking for a small stylish system that could play CD's and would also be mp3 device friendly. Digital radio was a must, as was an iPod dock and finally it all had to sound good, knowing Sony's track record I didn't think this last part would be a problem.
        Prices
        `````
        I notice now that this has been on offer at £99.99 in the Amazon sale, and if you manage to pick it up for that price you should be very pleased with yourself. At the moment it is priced on Amazon at £113 new which is still a reduction on the £135 I got it for, however I am still more than happy with the price I paid.

        Out of the box
        ````````````
        The system its self was neatly packed up in its box meaning there were no issues with damage during transit. After taking it out you were confronted by three main sections and the wires to link them all together. This proved to be very easy with the usual little red and black clippy peg thingumies (official technological terminology). In the box there is also the main power cord, Digital, FM and AM aerial and a remote with batteries. There is a black square shaped aerial for FM radio and two white wires with socket attachments for the AM and Digital radio. These Aerials fit into the corresponding holes, however it is worth mentioning that the positioning of these, up the walls, around the room, strapped to the cat etc will have an influence on which stations you can actually receive. After a bit of trigonometry I managed to get these all in the correct position, later deciding that all I really use is the digital radio channels.
        It's got the look
        `````````````
        The sleek looking unit comes with some very nice matching black speakers that will give and air of minimal sophistication (my quote not Sony's, maybe I should go for a PR job?) to your chosen room without dominating an area. There is a large display on the front which is easy to see from a distance (tested on my short sighted mother), and below this is a well designed silver bar that houses the power and eject buttons. Further down and unnoticed is the CD draw which moves in a satisfyingly smooth action. Lower down there is the headphone and audio input sockets.

        Functions
        ````````
        The top of the main unit contains the iPod dock and the operation buttons. Although the buttons look good they are a bit clunky and did not give a great feedback to your fingers (a minor quibble). They consist on the usual function, tuner, tuner play mode, repeat, scan, CD and iPod controls. The remote can be used for all these functions as well as a few more such as bass and treble, sleep modes and display options. The iPod dock works very well allowing scrolling through the menus with the unit, remote and iPod buttons, although using the iPod buttons may put stress on its attachment to the main unit. A further option is available for other digital audio devices via the audio input socket; this means you can attach devices that have an audio output that can be routed through a 3.5mm jack. I have been using a 3.5 to 3.5mm jack from my HTC phone with no problems. The difference between this and the iPod dock is that it does not charge through this socket and you can only access the menus though the external device.
        Final thoughts
        ````````````
        The sound quality is clear and crisp through all functions depending on where you have those aerials. It does not distort even at higher levels which can get higher than is needed for an average living room with average neighbours. There are no over the top sound adjustment options, it can be altered slightly through the simple operation of bass and treble but is not really needed due to the great basic setting. The menus and remote do take a bit of getting used to but this is to be expected with any new technology, it is a fast learning process and quite simple once you have used it a few times. It is small and will fit into any corner and does not look like the big ugly tower block stereos of old, small is the new big.

          Disadvantages

          Great speakers - I am impressed with the power and sound quality!

          'Wake your neighbours up...As long as you don't live next to me!'

          Introduction:

          I bought this CD player/ Ipod dock because I needed a new one for my lounge after my trusted JBL speaker became a bit worse for wear (however I had had the speaker for over four years, and after vigorous use I was expecting it). So I had several criteria that my selected speaker system had to meet: Number one I am a student and the price cannot be astronomical, granted I realise that it is a speaker system and therefore I was expecting the price to be quite high. Number two the sound quality needed to be of a high standard (after all It was to play and takeover my entire sitting room) and finally the speaker system needed to look presentable and modern.

          So I had a look on the internet (Amazon to be precise) and what did I find. A stunning... speaker system from Sony, for... wait for it... £116 - not bad on the money front - box one check.

          <<<<<Aesthetics>>>>>

          As mentioned the speaker system is visually stunning, there are three components in all, two speakers that are attached, rather neatly to a main Ipod docking station. The glass window on the front of the docking station makes the whole piece look stylish and modern without being two garish - this is helped with the colouring.

          As for the speakers, to be quite honest I was slightly disappointed with the fact Sony had evidently spent time designing the docking and the CD player section of the stereo, but had almost disregarded the two speakers either side. They are black and they say Sony - and they might as well have been designed twenty years ago.

          <<<<<My moan>>>>>

          This is a very brief and not substantial moan about the product but for some it could be a decider. This product is too cumbersome. The speakers are a perfect example, in every single market today every product is getting smaller and smaller, however Sony speaker systems have remained the same size - this means that the positioning of the speakers is limited. I realise some would argue that Sony speakers have to be good to produce commendable sound quality however I would argue however that this is not the case, Bose stereo systems have both a 'slim option' and a 'larger option' available - do Sony? Not that I am aware of. It would be nice if more time was taken to consider the practicality of the speakers... Moan over!

          <<<<<Sound Quality>>>>>

          This speaker system offers a rather respectable 50W of sheer power. In other words you won't be left thinking how much can I turn this up - as there is not stopping. I was thoroughly impressed by the fact that you can play tracks at very high volumes and maintain a consistent clarity - this means it is perfect for waking the neighbours... Or your Girlfriend... Or you neighbour.

          Overall I was very impressed the sound quality; is noticeably better than my previous JBL and it is interesting to be able to listen to the same song on a different speaker system and be able to hear little details that would have usually been unnoticeable. The only improvement, if I was to be critical, would be the lack of surround sound quality. I do however realise that for this I would have had to spend more money.

          <<<<<<Conclusion>>>>>

          Bar the one little negative I have with this speaker system I am overall very impressed, and I can say with ease that I am happy I purchased this model. I would recommend this to anyone and I strongly advise shopping around before making the purchase, it paid off for me as I saved myself around £30 through going through Amazon instead of my local retailer. The only thing which I would like to comment on, in the future (so watch for an update if you are interested) is the reliability of the product - so far it has caused no problems: from installation to playing music; though this could change. Only time will tell...

          (for a concise opinion)

            a player I'm more then happy to recommend

            We've known our last CD player has been going for a while, finally - around two months ago. It completely gave up the ghost and packed in. It was then that we decided that we couldn't put it off any more and like it or not, it was about time that we bought a new Hifi!

            So, after a quick chat with the sales person at Curry's, a quick play around with a few stereo's they had available and of course a read through some Dooyoo reviews I settled on this Sony CMTBX77DBi.

            Out The Box
            ~~~~~~~
            In the box, very well packed I have to add with those flimsy packaging things (that I'm still not quite sure what they're made of) wrapped securely around both speakers, and polystyrene slabs protecting both the Hifi itself and the speakers; you get a rather startling amount of wires, a remote and two batteries, an aerial, the speakers, the Hifi and some instructions. Still with me after all that? Good.. let's get on with setting this rather large amount of things up then!
            When it comes to setting it up don't do what I did! I got everything out in front of me, amongst everything else there were six wires and an aerial that looks like it's giving birth to a plastic alien! I managed to put the batteries in the remote then just looked at it totally baffled as to where to start and what to do! I would highly recommend doing it one thing at a time, when done like this set up is really easy. That 'plastic alien' that I was convinced was the aerials new baby is really a stand - you simply fold the aerial back over the stand and it clips in, this then easily plugs in to the back of the Hifi.
            From here you're probably best to start off with the speakers. The wires from here are clearly recognisable as they are a creamy orange in colour. These have a red and black coloured part on each end with exposed wire sticking out. This then sticks into the back of the speakers Hifi, you only need to make sure that you match up the red and the black with the coloured parts on each end.
            After this, you have two white wires. The instructions show where these plug in but it's pretty self explanatory as although they are both just plain wire with a small plastic hole in one end there are only two places where these could plug in. It doesn't really matter which way around they go, they're both aerials. One is the wire aerial, the other a way to connect an external DAB aerial. The external aerial isn't supplied and the instructions do recommend that you use one but more on this later. Once this is all done you just need to plug the radio in and you're good to go!
            Functions And Use
            ~~~~~~~~~~~

            *AM/FM Radio - Now I was slightly confused as in the shop it said that it had both AM and FM radio, yet on the box it only states FM. However I can confirm that it does have both. The FM radio is picked up through the wire aerial, the AM radio through the aerial with the black stand.

            The FM radio is picked up extremely well besides the problems with the wire aerial which I will discuss below and I have no problems here. The AM radio however I can't get any signal on at all, now the aerial they provide for this has a very short wire so I'll accept that this may be why. I have the radio on the bottom on a shelf unit, the wire only reaches up to a small coffee table by the window, it's still below window level so may not be high enough to get a signal.

            * DAB radio - This again is fantastic. It does suggest that you buy an external aerial however I've found no need. The sound quality and range of stations I'm picking up with their supplied wire aerial is more then enough for me. I'm not in a particularly weak signal area but then I'm not in a strong signal area either so give their supplied aerial a go first before buying something you may not need.

            * CD Player - The sound quality provided by this is second to none. I'd probably say it plays CD's better then my older, more expensive player. The only minor niggle I did found turned out not to be a problem at all! I spent forever looking for the open button in order to put a CD in. The instructions told me it should be at the bottom of the player itself on the right hand side - guess what? It's not there! It is however on the far right hand side of a very thin silver bar that runs just above the drawer itself. It is marked but the marking isn't very obvious at all so you have to know it's there in order to notice it.

            * iPod Dock - The iPod dock works brilliantly. It both plays and charges my iPhone. Also the remote works my iPhone so I don't need to get up or down in order to change songs, stop it etc. The only thing I will say is that there is some interference if the speakers are right next to the Hifi. This can be combatted by either moving the speakers away a little bit or turning my phone onto aeroplane mode. This also isn't specific to this model but a general problem.

            * MP3 players - There is an AUX in on the bottom right hand side of the player, funnily enough exactly where it told me the open for the CD should be! Simply plug in here, select function "audio in" and press play. I don't know if this is a general problem with these players or just mine but the remote, besides changing the volume, will not work with this.

            Sound Quality
            ~~~~~~~~
            I realize I have kind of answered this elsewhere in my review but it is after all a Hifi, and therefore I feel it deserves a special mention. Besides the radio's I can't get signal on and the interference wit my iPhone the sound quality is second to none. I bought it with the intention to upgrade the speakers if I needed to and this is an option, but I have found no need as the sound quality is exceptional as it is and more then makes up for the short speaker wires.
            Look And Style
            ~~~~~~~~~

            This is a very good looking, compact Hifi which I can imagine would fit in with most people's decoration. The main body is black with a blue LED screen, which very helpfully displays the time when the system is on standby. It measures just 21x14x28cm. Each speaker measures 14x24x19cm.

            Any problems?
            ~~~~~~~~~
            None really, the wires are short so the speakers and aerial won't reach too far from the stereo. This has caused a problem with getting radio signal but as I said, the DAB makes up for that.
            Also as with all wired aerials it is flimsy and a bit hard to try and find the right position. We have ours sellotaped to our window so our poor neighbours probably wonder what on earth were up to! This can be fiddly but once positioned it works well.
            Price, Availability And Recommendation
            ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

            I bought mine from Curry's for £149.99. It is however widely available and prices do vary so shop around.

            I have no problems recommending it and despite it's niggling faults giving it the full five out of five stars. I have yet to find a perfect player and this is much better then I expected for the price.

              Advantages

              • Reliability

              Disadvantages

              Definitely a Keeper if you're iPod is compatible with the dock!

              I've been enjoying this product for a while now, and I felt I should write a review about it. This is really elegant, slick, and moderately priced. My iPod works perfectly, and it's very easy to use. The nicest aspect of this equipment is the quality of the sound. I love listening to music through this system compared to my older, cheaper system. Mind-blowing quality in terms of sound. The radio is not as great, as the wire aerial is very flimsy, hence the quality and clarity is not the best it can be.

              The system looks stunning, and is definitely a keeper for me. I don't use the CD player that much, but it is included, and it features the same quality sound.

              System was easy to set up, and it was basically right out of the box. The nice aspect of iPod control was the fact that the system came with a Sony remote, which allowed playback from quite a long distance.

              Caution:
              I've heard of some older generation iPods not working correctly. I know that they have a limited number of iPods that are truly compatible, so definitely give it a little bit more research. I had a friend who had a classic iPod which did not work on my system. Disappointed in that aspect.
