“ Brand: Mamas and Papas / Type: Highchairs „
I had a lot of trouble choosing the 'perfect' highchair for my son who is 6 months old. Like everything, there are so many to choose from on the market and all with different functions. I chose the Futura eventually because a friend had one that she had used for 3 children and it was still going. My criteria was that I needed a highchair that could be positioned low so I could feed my son from the settee, high for feeding at the table, provide enough support for a child who can't quite sit up by himself, being able to fold it away (and of course, price). The Futura meets all these requirements and more. This highchair is made of durable plastic (even most of the mechanics are plastic except the height adjusta at the back). This means its very easy to clean and there are few crevices for 'hiding' spilled food which makes it very hygenic. There are 7 different height positions which is great for using the highchair at different tables and most fantastic for feeding whilst in front of the settee. As a plus point, my son also enjoys just sitting in it watching the TV! There are 2 foot positions which I haven't taken advantage of yet as my son is too small. This highchair has a very wide base. It feels very secure and sturdy but heed the advice that a child should never be left unsupervised in a highchair. The highchair comes with a removable PVC cushion which is more comfortable for your child. However, I'm sure it could be used without it for an older child. It is possible to purchase an extra insert for a smaller baby but our son has managed fine as he is on the larger side. The highchair comes with a removable tray which is extra large and very useful. The tray is supposed to be adjustable but I do find it sits quite tight and restricts the child's movement (not necessarily a bad thing though). It is very easy to change the heights on this highchair. It is not recommended to do this while the child is in the
seat but we do. Without the tray fixed in place, this chair does fit nicely up against the table making the child feel really part of the dining experience. I do not give this highchair five stars because I do find that it is not compact when in use or when folded. It cannot be tucked away in a corner when not in use. It is supposed to be able to freestand when folded but I find the seat keeps flopping forward so we always end up putting it on its side although this is not a huge problem. One downside with the product that could cause a problem is that there is a bar across the front which it seems you can't remove. I might foresee there being an issue when my son gets a lot bigger but my 2 year old nephew fitted in it ok. There is one other disavantage with this highchair which can easily be rectified but at a cost to the owner. The chair only comes with a 3 point harness. This means you cannot strap your child in at the shoulders (like you would in a pushchair for example) and a small child will probably fall out. Fortunately, there are 'd' rings on the highchair so we have been able to fit a 5 point harness to it and this makes our son much more secure and we can always remove it when he grows up. In summary, this has been a great purchase that should last us a long time and hopefully see us through more children. For the designer home types, this product comes in a choice of colours and with matching accessories eg we have the matching splashmat. If you can live with the bulkiness and plasticy look of this highchair, you'll appreciate its many functions and usefulness.
WHY AM I WRITING THIS? I have just purchased this highchair, but had to write an opinion as I am soo impressed so far! If I change my mind I will update this opinion - but I have a good feeling on this one! COST (IMPORTANT THAT! AND LOOK OF CHAIR) The chair is £59.99 (I bought mine from Argos) and is constructed of very sturdy plastic (all in attractive pastels) there is a lovely padded pvc insert which makes your baby look so snug and supported (it looks like the sort of thing that you get with wicker chairs, but more padded and solid). THE HEIGHT SETTINGS AND STUFF! There are 7 height settings, which is excellant as you can take away the removable tray and have them sat at the right height for your dining table. The first low setting is excellant for feeding if you yourself are sitting on a sofa. My six month old is sat in it now on the low setting watching tv - just the right height. I would recommend this chair from early on, as even though it does not recline, the padded insert really holds them in place. My baby just grinned when I put her in and played happily for 30 mins. THE TRAY The Tray is large and has 4 positions, good for either keeping a young baby secure or giving room to a chubba baby. And helpful when lifting them in and out of the chair (saves your back!) OH DEAR - SOME DRAWBACKS The are 2 disadvantage so far, firstly you only get a waist strap and crotch strap provided, it is not a proper 5 point harness, however your child would need to practically jump in the air to escape once placed inside, as it is very secure and secondly the tray is not easy to adjust, it comes off too easily!! and when you fold the chair down for storage(yes it does that as well) the tray keeps popping off. It would be much easier if the tray stayed attached, in fact I think that this will really get on my nerves as time progresses, but this is a small price to pay for an oth
erwise superb chair. BUT HEY READ THIS!!!! Another thing to mention is the whole highchair is plastic and pvc, is very attractive in design (designs vary, but they are all pastel and lovely) and of course the higchair is incredibly easy to clean, the padded insert comes out and it really is just a case of wiping the chair down and hey-presto spotless again! AND FOR THE THRIFTY... ...Resonably priced at £59.99 and because it will be so easy to keep new looking, you can sell it on later!! Bargain.
When looking for a highchair we really didn't know what type we wanted, so we visited a local baby shop (not one of the well-known ones) to ask for advice. We looked at several, but decided on the "Futura" because it looked attractive and seemed sturdy. The man in the shop demonstrated how strong it is by sitting on it! It's both a high and low chair; it has seven different height positions which is useful if you're sitting on a low chair yourself to feed your child. It folds quite compactly, though not completely flat. It has a large removable tray, and a padded insert, available in a number of different designs. After a few months our insert developed a small split, and within a week of returning it to the shop we had a replacement. Well done Mamas & Papas for efficient service and a very good highchair.
