A nice highchair insert from Mothercare

Quite a few months ago me and my Husband purchased Jayden a highchair (previously reviewed) the highchair was made from pine and didn't come with any sort of cushion or padding, I was a bit worried that if he fidgeted about in it he would bang his head on the back of the chair and also slip against the smooth surface of the wood. I decided to purchase a Mothercare Highchair Insert to go with the highchair that way the chair would be less slippery, more comfortable for him to sit in and also he would not be able to bang his head on the back of the chair.

      Packaging
The Mothercare Highchair Insert comes in very plain basic packaging, it comes in a clear plastic bag with a card containing the name of the product inserted inside, the bag is sealed at the top with the highchair insert neatly folded up inside. The clear bag allows you to clearly see the highchair insert inside so you can clearly see which colour and design you are choosing. That was basically it for the packaging, it really wasn't anything fancy, just plain and simple but at the same time did its job of protecting the insert.

      The Mothercare Highchair Insert
When we purchased Jayden's Mothercare Highchair Insert we had more than one design to choose from we went for the Jungle Fun design, we went for this one as it is bright and colourful and we felt Jayden would prefer this.

The Highchair insert is basically a chair shaped seat pad, it covers the base of the seat, both sides and the back, the insert overhangs the sides and back of the chair a little adding extra protection if your baby leans over the edge or leans back. The padded insert is covered with a plastic covering which makes it very easy to keep clean and wipe down after messy meal times.

Our design is basically bright horizontal stripes including contrasting colours such as green, blue, red, orange and yellow, these coloured stripes cover the whole insert and in the centre of the back of the insert is a bright yellow square with an orange lion in the centre of it, the insert has a green edging. The back of the insert is just plain white, personally I think it would have been nice if it had been coloured to match the rest of it, however with our highchair you cannot really see the back of the insert so this is not too much of an issue.

There is an elastic strap which goes under the base of the highchair seat, this helps to hold the insert in place, personally we do not use this as the design of our highchair means that the insert cannot slip out. The Mothercare Highchair Insert is not overly thick, however it is thick enough give your baby added comfort and safety when in their highchair.

      Care Instructions
The Mothercare Highchair Insert doesn't really come with any actual care instructions, however the plastic coating it has means that it can simply be wiped clean with soap and water, personally we use Dettol wipes on ours (ones which are suitable for baby's equipment) I find that using Dettol wipes on it I know that it is clean and germ free and ready for the next meal time. The constant cleaning of the insert has had no effect on it at all and it looks as good as new, it doesn't actually look any different compared to when we purchased it.

      Price and Availability
Obviously I purchased the Jungle Fun Highchair Insert from Mothercare as it is one of their own brand products, it is currently being sold for £5.00 as it is on offer, however the original price was £14.99, personally I think it is good value for money as it is hardwearing and long lasting so it is not something you are going have to keep replacing, more importantly I believe it is worth the money as it really does what it is meant to, it gives Jayden comfort and support when he is in his highchair and helps to keep him safe.

      My Opinion
Since we purchased Jayden's Mothercare Highchair Insert it has been used several times a day, Jayden has the majority of his meals in his highchair so the insert is used each time, he also sits in his chair when we have our dinner again using the insert. When he first used the highchair he couldn't quite sit up on his own and the insert help to support him, now he is older the insert continues to give him support but also gives him added comfort and it prevents him from hurting himself on the back and side of the highchair which is made from hard wood.

The bright colourful design looks good and is also enjoyed by Jayden, for me and my Husband the insert is ideal as it means we can keep the highchair clean and also the insert itself is very easy to care for, in my opinion this item is well worth the money. I would highly recommend anyone who purchases a highchair for their baby that doesn't come with a cushion or padding purchases one of these as it is the perfect product to make meal times more comfortable for you little one.
