A simple hob that does what you want and need

Perhaps the most important part of any kitchen is its' hob. No matter what degree of cooking expertise you may or may not have, you will rely on a reliable hob to help you eat. And surprisingly, choosing one can be difficult. For me, it was based on nothing more than recomendations of family who are long standing customers of Indesit.

With that in mind I plumped for the PI640AIX. In terms of design, it is no different to any other, conforming to the traditional four plate layout with knobs to the right hand size. Constructed from stainless steel and with dimensions of 33mm x 580mm x 510mm.

The four gas burners are differing in what they do. The larger one is a rapid burner, thhe smaller a standard, while the other two come somewhere in between in what is described as a semi rapid burn. On top of these are two enameled pan supports.

To the right are the four knobs and an electric push button ignition. The unit runs on 220v- 240v, 50/60hz. The layout of the knobs and the burner they relate to can be a little confusing as it seems to operate in an anti clockwise setup. The second knob operates a burner at the bottom while the last knob operates on at the top.

This particular unit can be purchased from most electrical retailers with prices starting from £95. Included is an instruction book and the standard 1yr manufacturers gaurantee.

It's simplicity is definitely the selling point. Indesit takes a tried and trusted design knowing that it will do exactly what is required of it and no more. There are very few things to grumble about. Obviously I mentioned the knob layout, but you get used to that. The markings on the knob panel do wear off, but does anyone actually use this as a form of measuring how much gas they should use.

Perhasp the one major pain is in the cleaning, any spilt food shows up straight away. Removing stains takes a good deal of effort and patience. But perhaps this is an indictment of the ay I cook rather than the build quality of this product. In summation I'm happy with it, and for the price, so should you.
