When we were installing our fitted kitchen we had a tight budget but inevitably the budget got stretched and we ended up spending way more than we wanted. One of the areas where we managed to save was in buying the hob to go with our built in oven. We went for an Indesit hob solely because it matched our oven and because we found it for £100 online which was much cheaper than we had budgeted for.
The hob is gas so it needs to be installed by a professional but it didn’t give our fitter any problems. It is quite basic in design but it looks modern and fitted in well with the rest of our appliances.
There are four rungs to use on the hob which vary in size with a small, large and two medium sized ones.
Each of the gas burners is controlled by its own dial on the side of the hob which makes it easy to adjust the heat and flame size. The dials all turn easily and don’t get stuck. There is also an ignition button beside the dials to ignite the gas. There is a safety feature built in so if the flame goes out the gas will turn itself off.
I like the pan supports on this hob as they feel sturdy and keep pots and pans on an even surface and don’t slant to the side so the contents of the pots and pans cook evenly and at the same time. There is also an area in the middle of the hob for putting on a pan off the flames which is handy as it gives you somewhere to put a pan that has finished cooking while you wait for another to finish cooking what is in it.
The hob is really easy to clean as it all comes apart easily. The pan supports and burner elements come off for cleaning and are coated which makes washing them easy as most things just wipe off. Having the burner elements and pan supports off in the sink getting washed means that you have easy access to the hob to clean up spillages with a cloth. The only problem is that because it is stainless steel it does pick up finger prints and smudges which need buffering to remove which can be a pain if you are wanting it to look shiny.
This might be a pretty basic gas hob but it does everything that is needs to. You can adjust the flame for boiling or simmering or even have it low enough just to keep things warm. It looks good and will fit in to any modern kitchen and most importantly it won’t break the bank and is a good and cheap way of giving a kitchen a modern and sleek look on a budget.
