Sony HT SF1300

Another excellent piece of home theatre kit from Sony. With all the usual and expected DTS, 5.1ch surround, HDMI inputs/outputs etc this is a comprehensive system. What sets it apart from the rest, is its ease of use and sound quality.
Dealing with the former, the manual make this system very easy to set up. I have it connected to a ... DVD player, TV, Sky+ box, Wii and computer (wirelessly via an Apple Airport) and all worked first time with no problem. The unit even picks up the quality of the signal being received (e.g. 44khz etc).
In relation to the latter, the sound quality is excellent. Watching DVDs, the surround sound is fantastic. The unit really comes into its own in relation to music however. There is a vast array of different settings (theatre, cinema, hall, disco). The one excellent feature for parties is reverting from surround sound to 5ch stereo - whereby each speaker outputs the same stereo sound. Perfect at parties when everyone is all over the room and surround sound is not the appropriate sound. Read the complete review |

Boom!!! This is a 5.1 surround sound system that is just shocking, pure excellence. I got this from the Sony Centre for £300, usual price is around £349.99, but can be found cheaper on amazon.
I got a Samsung 28inch HDTV, but the sound quality is poor, i use my consoles and Sky+HD a lot and even though i am enjoying top ... picture quality, its just wasn't right without the sound.
One thing that attracted me to this was the 2 HDMI inputs and no DVD player (i had it buit in with my PS3 and Xbox 360).
Upon getting this delivered the box was really big, it comes with the main amplifer, the bass box and a central speaker, 4 stand speakers and a remote.
Installation was very easy just connect the leads to the amplifier which is marked.
Now even though HDMI is suppose to carry digital video and sound, this doesnt, HDMI will only carry pictures. So there are presets you can choose to assign you console/television or anything else. For i the first input i used my PS3 HDMI for picture and Optical for sound. For Sky i connected HDMI to the TV for picture and optical for sound.
No the sound quality is the best i have heard and is very good for the price, you can adjust volume settings of course, but tweak the tone of the treble and bass. Also you can adjust the distance of the sound comming from the speakers. It also have a radio tuner too!
When you are watching a film or playing a game you can definitaly tell that your experience has been enhanced, the bass can really shake the walls and the volume can get on you next door friend annoyed but it is a really good piece of kit. If you want the realisim of yor experience i strongly suggest you get this, as it can it can decode Dolby Pro logic, Dolby Pro Logic II and Dolby Digital.
I have also sucessfully connected this to my laptop on my external sound card using optical lead, so go on get this now. Read the complete review |

This is a fantastic piece of kit. Also, very easy to install - almost a plug and play scenario. Different coloured plugs in the back of the unit match a similarly coloured lead so pretty difficult to get wrong, even for a novice like me.
I am not a techie so am unable to comment on spec etc (but include the technical data ... below). However, it does everything I expected it to. The sound is superb (will rock the sofa!) but you must remember to change the function dependent on what you are watching ie, different functions for movies, music, sport etc etc.
The sub woofer is great for scenes involving a helicopter!!
Also, the unit is a DVD & MP3 player.
Two of the speakers are wireless so can be positioned anywhere and have had no problems getting a signal. Having said that the max distance has been about 20 feet. Great for parties as you can move the speakers to a desired location and feed off the wireless feed.
The speakers look and feel classy/stylish.
I purchased the unit from pixmania.com but it was part of an overall package with LCD TV and stand so difficult to say exactly what this cost however, price seems to vary between £300-£340 (www.pricerunner.co.uk)
Overall, I have no hesitation in recommending this to anybody.
