I've used the Linn Classik Movie player for a good few years now as part of a full Linn multi-room system. In my house we have two of these fantastic players, one in our main TV room and the other in the sun room.
Linn have always produced products of outstanding quality in all respects. Some would class them as the top makers of hi-fi and audio equipment in both the UK and the world! Enough background information, now to the player.
This player is everything you need all wrapped into one set top box. It plays CD's, DVD's, radio, and anything else you can plug into it with the aux phono ports at the back. We have our Televisions sound running through this box so that it can be connected to our 5.1 surround sound set-up.
The design is exactly as the name sounds "Classik". There's nothing too fancy about it, but by no means shabby looking. It would defiantly fit into anybody's house with no problems at all.
On the front there are all the simple buttons you need to control volume and disc menus etc. There is also a very sleek remote included laid out in a simple easy to use way. The screen on the front of the box is easy to read and displays the current source that is playing and changes to volume or whatever parameter you are changing as you do so.
The sound quality that comes from this player is insane. I have heard nothing that can match it, it makes DVD's sound like you are in the cinema with the bass right down low and the surround sound is just amazing! If you are a proper sound enthusiast then you will love this for your house.
The only real aspect of this outstanding player is probably the price. I have no idea what they sell for now as I'm pretty sure the product is discontinued, however being a top end product it costs more than your usual DVD player.
In conclusion this is an amazing multi-functional home theatre player that I would recommend to anyone!
Linn is a premium Hi-Fi manufacturer, based in Glasgow, Scotland since the early seventies. They initially made their name from designing and selling the definitive record player of the last 4 decades, the Linn LP12. Now, as technology has developed, a new range of products has been developed over time. One of the latest is the Linn Classik Movie System. The Classik range of products became the entry level into the world of Linn where a system can cost between £1000 and £1,000,000.
Make no mistake, from the moment you take it out the box, you know this is a quality product. It is weighty and is packaged in thick, secure cardboard box. What you get for your money is this.
A CD player, a DVD player, a pre-amp, a 75w per channel power amp, an FM/AM RDS tuner, and a Dolby Digital/DTS 5 channel surround decoder. All this packaged in a solid metal enclosure with an extremely solid feeling facia and controls.
On the back panel there are connections for your 5 surround speaker channels and a subwoofer. Analogue line in and out, and 2 optical digital line in ports, so that you can have your Linn system connected to say, a games console for surround sound from your PS3, PC or digibox.
I've been visiting at my friends houses where they've been showing off their new big screen TV's and the "managers special" home cinema system. I then invite them round to mine and play the same DVD on the Linn, and they are completely blown away, there is no comparison. I also have Linn speakers to complement the Movie System and this combination brings movies to life in a way that you never thought possible. The opening scenes of Quantum of Solace with the car chase through the tunnel, Master and Commander with the creaking of the ship followed by the cannon blasts, all delivered with power and control I had never heard before.
I often say to people that I would prefer to wait for the DVD of a film to come out rather than got to the cinema to see it. Why? Because the experience is so much better on my Linn.
As Linn say, if it sounds better, then it is better. I agree.
