Linn is a premium Hi-Fi manufacturer, based in Glasgow, Scotland since the early seventies. They initially made their name from designing and selling the definitive record player of the last 4 decades, the Linn LP12. Now, as technology has developed, a new range of products has been developed over time. One of the latest is the Linn Classik Movie System. The Classik range of products became the entry level into the world of Linn where a system can cost between £1000 and £1,000,000.
Make no mistake, from the moment you take it out the box, you know this is a quality product. It is weighty and is packaged in thick, secure cardboard box. What you get for your money is this.
A CD player, a DVD player, a pre-amp, a 75w per channel power amp, an FM/AM RDS tuner, and a Dolby Digital/DTS 5 channel surround decoder. All this packaged in a solid metal enclosure with an extremely solid feeling facia and controls.
On the back panel there are connections for your 5 surround speaker channels and a subwoofer. Analogue line in and out, and 2 optical digital line in ports, so that you can have your Linn system connected to say, a games console for surround sound from your PS3, PC or digibox.
I've been visiting at my friends houses where they've been showing off their new big screen TV's and the "managers special" home cinema system. I then invite them round to mine and play the same DVD on the Linn, and they are completely blown away, there is no comparison. I also have Linn speakers to complement the Movie System and this combination brings movies to life in a way that you never thought possible. The opening scenes of Quantum of Solace with the car chase through the tunnel, Master and Commander with the creaking of the ship followed by the cannon blasts, all delivered with power and control I had never heard before.
I often say to people that I would prefer to wait for the DVD of a film to come out rather than got to the cinema to see it. Why? Because the experience is so much better on my Linn.
As Linn say, if it sounds better, then it is better. I agree.
Summary: An excellent all round system at the heart of your home entertainment.
