      • "Good Looking Gloss Speakers"

Good Product Visually and In Performance

Key Features: 1,000W power output; 3D Blu-ray playback; Smart Hub & DLNA media streaming; Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; Supplied iPod dock
      Manufacturer: Samsung

The HT-E5530 is one of many 5.1-channel Blu-ray systems in its current range, offering 3D playback, smart functionality and wireless media streaming – not to mention a full 1000W sound system. It’s a scaled down version of the 7.1-channel HT-E6750 system that blew us away earlier this year, doing away with luxuries like the hybrid valve amp and wireless rears, but keeping the feature count as high as possible for its meagre price tag.

The system comprises a pair of tower speakers for the front channels and compact bookshelf boxes for the rears, joined by a slim centre speaker and small passive subwoofer. This configuration makes it ideal for those who want the sound quality benefits of front floorstanders but don’t have space for towers all around the room. If you prefer, Samsung also offers a version with towers for both the fronts and rears (HT-E5550) and a version with compact speakers all round (HT-E5500).

      Samsung HT-E5530 - Design
The speakers are visually stunning, coated in a lustrous gloss black finish that brings instant glamour to the room. The towers, which come in three parts that have to be screwed together, stand 1.2m tall and exude elegance. They’re two-way ‘open type’ speakers, which basically means there’s a phase plug in the middle of the two mid/bass drivers and they’re not hidden behind a mesh.

The centre and surrounds are styled in the same fashion – basically gloss black boxes – but in much smaller cases. The rears stand just 141mm high, making them easy to place on furniture, while the centre’s horizontal slim depth and horizontal alignment is ideal for slipping under the TV.

One word of warning though – they may look good, but the build quality of the front speakers is disappointing, particularly the light, hollow middle section that links the base and main speaker, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

The brains and brawn of the operation is the receiver unit, which offers Blu-ray, DVD and CD playback as well as Dolby True HD/DTS HD Master Audio decoders and Samsung’s Crystal amplifier. It’s a quietly stylish unit, with a sleek black finish and roughly the same dimensions as Samsung’s regular Blu-ray players.

On the front is a clever LED display with a row of illuminated touch-sensitive controls built into it. Consolidating everything into this single panel keeps the rest of the fascia uncluttered, although on the right hand side you’ll find chunky volume and power controls, plus a USB port.

      Samsung HT-E5530 - Connections
On the back is an HDMI output and two HDMI inputs that turn the HT-E5530 into a conduit for other HD sources, such as digital TV receivers and games consoles. All of the sockets are 3D-ready, with ARC available on the output.

We decided to treat ourselves to a home cinema system and decided to go for this one from Samsung. The price of the system was £299 from Very and it arrived in a couple of days. The box was quite big, I don't know what I was expecting but it was bigger than I had expected but then when we unpacked it we found it had been packed really well so nothing would get damaged in transit.

The system comes with a blu-ray player included and it has a set of 5 speakers plus stands for the front two speakers. The system was easy enough to set up and put together, it came with very clear instructions to follow. There are 2 HDMI ports on the back for in put and one for out put so you can connect it to your tv via HDMI and still connect two other items to it to use the sounds system. We have connected our PS3 to it via one of the HDMI ports and we have a lead into the other port which we use to connect the laptop to it when we want to watch something from there. We have the Sky box connected via an optical cable which gives us brilliant sound now, before on our old system we used to find the lip synch was always out but now its just right.

The system gives you full HD 1080p upscaling of any dvds that are not blu-ray so you get a better picture from them as well as being able to watch the lovely picture you get from a blu-ray disc. It is also compatible with playing 3D discs if you have a 3d enabled tv.

The speakers give 1000 watt ouput, there are different sound settings already fitted into the system that you can choose from depending on what you are watching or listening to. You can have it sounding like it is in a big hall or a studio or all different settings. Its good to have a play about and see which you like best.

There is a smart hub included with the software on the machine which is wireless so you can connect it to your laptop and play your songs from your computer straight through the sound system. This was quite easy to set up for both of our laptops. You can also look at your photos on the tv direct and watch videos you may have on your computer. The smart hub is also internet enabled so you can go online through the system and connect to Iplayer and other internet tv things.

Another thing you get with the system is an Ipod dock for your Ipod or Iphone. Unfortunately we don't have one of these at the moment so can not use it. The system also has bluetooth connection but we have not needed to use this yet for anything.

The system also has a FM tuner on it and it comes with the FM areal to attach to the back.

The rest of the stated info for this product is as follows

      1000 watt total output
      5.1 channel satellite speakers
      2 tallboy speakers
      DVD upscaling
Virtual Surround 7.1, 8 sound modes
Access to full browser and Smart Hub
Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby True HD and DTS
      2 x HDMI
      Web Storage (5GB)
      Wireless LAN ready
      iPod/iPhone cradle
      Wireless speaker ready
      Anynet+, Allshare
      FM radio tuner
      Samsung HT-E5530 3D Blu-ray home cinema kit

I would recommend this system if you are looking for a good Home Cinema system. It has a brilliant sound to it and is so easy to use and set up, the remote control is good, there are lots of things you can do with it and everything on it is labelled well so you can work out how to do things in no time. I love being able to connect the laptop up to play songs without having to have trailing wires across the room and I also love having the PS3 connected as you get such a good atmosphere with the games with the surround sound on.
