Sharps Bedrooms
by Gary B
An interesting company I have to say. We only had one wardrobe fitted in the end and I guess not the largest of jobs that Sharps would be after. However, at the time we were after new wardrobes in two rooms but the salesman said that we shouldn't bother with one of the rooms! He went on to say how we can ask the fitter to make something ... up for us when he fits the main job. It'd be cheaper for us as Sharps wouldn't get a cut!
I placed the order as the salesman said it'd all be completed within two weeks.
The design he did was, 'for illustration purposes', and when the surveyor turns up he'll measure up correctly, 'we can have what ever we want', is what we were told by the salesman.
I received a call the next day to arrange a date for the surveyor. First available date was about two weeks away which I wasn't happy with. We agreed on the next day after I tried to cancel the order.
When the surveyor turned up, 'no, you've ordered a 3 draw unit not a 4 draw unit, it can't be changed' was his words. However, the surveyor was a very nice man and he simply changed the drawing but advised that Sharps may try to charge me more. No extra charge was asked for.
The surveyor also told me that the job wasn't booked for fitting for at least 3 weeks and that he understood the fitters to be back logged with work.
The next day involved several calls to Sharps to have the wardrobe fitted as agreed when I placed the order. If I was made aware of time issues at the get go, I wouldn't have placed the order, there's no fun in being awkward.
Fitter arrived and immediately starting apologising for the long delay he assumed I had waiting for the fitting. Although it wasn't the case for me, it does appear to be the trend.
He counter sunk the first set of holes for the door handles, now the screws are too long and handle is loose (currently I've used oversized washers as a temp fix), doors aren't hung evenly (I've fully adjusted them), interior trim has fallen off, drunken cut to a trim piece end and the rubbish that was arranged to be collected by Sharps was still there two weeks later. I was away from home and had a friend remove it for me.
After sales, well, they appear keen to assist. I complained yesterday and an appointment has been made for next week to fix things.
However, a fitted wardrobe is a perfect solution to the room and for what I paid I'm not too disappointed. The fitter coming to fix my issues is not the same guy that fitted it as per my instructions! Read the complete review |

Argos 4 Drawer Plastic Tower Storage Unit
by rji0907
My son had a ridiculous amount of toys in his bedroom and for that reason, he needs quite a lot of storage. He already had a few storage drawers but we were finding that the amount of storage in hi bedroom just wasn't significant anymore, so I set off to find something suitable.
I wanted his bedroom to look tidy, but also I ... wanted my son to be able to access his toys with ease and also be able to play with them in his bedroom, so I didn't want the storage I purchased to take up much floor space.
In the end I went for the Argos, 4 drawer storage tower. This had a bit of a cheap and cheerful look to it, but it seemed to fit them bill so I ended up purchasing this one in the end. The storage unit is made up of plastic framework which is mounted on wheels for easy manoeuvrability and the tower includes four drawers, which just slot into the relevant spaces within the framework.
The drawers themselves are quite clear, but if you wanted to add a bit of colour, then you can get different coloured framework such as silver, black, red, pink and blue. The silver and black framework feature coloured boxes, alternate black/silver or clear, though I thought these looked a bit odd so I stuck with blue framework and all clear boxes.
The tower costs £19.99 from Argos stores which I would say is about right as it is quite a large object but does feel and look a bit cheap so I wouldn't really want to pay any more than this for it.
The tower is quite deceiving as it holds a lot more than you would think which is fantastic. I was able to separate my sons toys out, by putting games in one drawer, football cards in another and action figures in another, so the great thing is that he knows where to find the toys and he can access them himself without having to ask me, but at the end of the day they can be tidied away nicely, leaving one very happy Mommy!
The boxes are just a nice size that they hold a lot of toys, but they don't become too heavy or unmovable when full. I half expected one of the fuller boxes to split due to the weight, but I have to say that so far, they have held together really well with no cracks or splits in sight.
Each box comes with a clip on lid which is handy and the whole unit is easy to put together and it is perfect if you are short of space as it doesn't take up much floor space. There are also alternate versions of these drawers available as you can have a 3 drawer or a 5 drawer tower if desired.
Overall, although this doesn't exactly look the business, for a child's bedroom it is perfect as it allows them easy access to their toys, but keeps their room organised and tidy too so it's a win-win situation. The drawers aren't too heavy for my son to remove from the tower if desired and the organisation of his toys allows him to find the toy he is looking for quicker and quite often, without the need of my help.
Although this isn't exactly the crème de la crème of bedroom furniture, it is convenient, cheap and maximises space and so therefore it comes with a recommendation from me. Read the complete review |
