Ikea PS Fangst
by thehonesttruth
We purchased one of these in lime green for my daughter to hang in her wardrobe to keep smaller items stored - hats, gloves, tights, and smaller toys. There were three colours available, pink, the blue pictured above, and the light green which seemed the most neutral of the colours, and the most likely to remain appealing to her as she ... gets older (she's getting to the age where she is starting to tire of pinl).
This cost £3, and when we purchased it came pressed flat - it's essentially netting, with wire hoops inside at regular intervals, and each compartment being separated by a mesh floor. Eash compartment has a hole to allow putting stuff in, and rather than run in a straight line down the front of he Fangst storage, they seem to be at different random intervals around the hanging tube, going round it in a sort of spiral. There is a hanging loop at the top that could be hung from a hook, or, as in our case, slipped over a wardrobe hanging rail at the point of assembly to become part of the furniture. It is extremely light, and of course can be collapsed when not needed, so when empty needn't occupy much space at all.
The six compartments are ideal for storing small items - my daughter actually can't reach the top one easily at the moment but can easily reach the rest, and using them for storing her hats, gloves, scarves and thick winter tights. She also uses them to store her smaller cuddly toys to stop them being all over the floor. It seems fairly sturdy - certainly the hanging loop shows no signs of straining, and it has coped with being overstuffed when my daughter 'cheats' when tidying her room. The mesh does appear to have a few minor frays in it, but I don't think this is down to the product itself as much as it is to my cat being absolutely fascinated with sharpening his claws on it. He's figured out it moves when he hits it too, so it's providing value for money as a cat toy as well as a storage solution.
At £3, I do think this is a nifty item of storage - I am thinking of getting another for the bathroom, as it seems ideal for storing bath toys and scrubbers over the baths whilst allowing them to drop dry. At 168cm long, it is rather two long for this purpose, but I intend sewing the first three compartments together so they don't open to shorten it.
I recommend this - cheap, practical, light, portable, and takes up hardly any space when not in use. My only criticism is I would like more colour choice - the vibrant colours are great for young kids bedrooms, and ok for bathrooms, but I wouldn't have minded a smart black option for inside my own wardrobe. 4 stars! Argos Modular TV Entertainment Unit

Argos Modular TV entertainment unit
When we finally moved from a small city flat to our lovely home in the country we had more space than we knew what to do with, or at least we used to. My husband quickly snapped up one of the downstairs rooms as an office / games room / man cave. And I was promptly informed that no man ... cave would be complete without a decent sized TV, blue-ray player, games console and some sort of sound system... And with that in mind he needed to get himself something to display and keep it all in place. So he ended up with the Argos Modular TV entertainment unit in a beech effect.
For a piece of flat pack furniture it was not all that difficult to put together and had minimal parts. It really only took my husband and myself less than an hour to assemble the Argos Modular TV entertainment unit and arrange it in place. The instructions as far as I remember were straightforward and really it was a simple shape and design to put together, and although there was two of us building it one person would have managed just fine.
As I mentioned we own the TV unit in the beech effect, which in all honesty doesn't look like natural wood but a flat pack alternative. However, if beech is not your effect of choice the Argos Modular TV entertainment unit is also available in a pine, oak, walnut, white or black ash effect. So plenty to pick from and a shade I imagine to suit the majority of people's room interiors.
The TV unit has so far proved to be sturdy and has more than enough room up top for a 32 inch TV without looking small. The unit also has four separate shelves which really come in very hand for any games consoles or blu-ray / DVD players, etc, etc. My hubby also uses one of the four shelves to house blu-rays and X-box games. For taking up a relatively small area of the room the Argos Modular TV entertainment unit provides quite a bit of storage and look ok.
We paid £39.99 for our Argos Modular TV entertainment unit and although it does look a bit cheap it has served its purpose well and still looks as good as new, it is just not a piece of furniture that I love. The Modular TV entertainment is part of the Argos Maine collection, so if you like the TV unit and you like to coordinate your furniture you could.
The Argos Modular TV entertainment unit is available to buy online with free delivery or from one of the many Argos stores that are scattered around the UK.

Ikea Bygel Hanging Rail
by thehonesttruth
Ikea are excellent for storage solutions, and a walk through the store always throws up some creative storage ideas. It was after a browse through the store looking for larger items that I ended up with four of these Bygel rails, having seen them creatively employed in various places throughout the store.
These come in two ... sizes - one at 55 cm long for £1.50, and a 100cm for £2. I purchased 2 in each size, intending to use one of the longer ones as a necklace store in my bedroom, one as a hanging rack in the kitchen (in combination with the Bygel S hooks, and the two smaller ones on the inside of the cupboard door to house pot lids. Had I not seen all these uses in the store, I doubt I would have purchased any of these rails, as I'm not good at picturing things in use.
These are simple to use - they don't come with any fixing devices included, as the fixings needed depend on where you are attaching them. They each come with two holes for screws at each end of the rail, and so long as you use the right fixings you should get a good secure attachment.
The finish on these rails is a brushed steel kind of finish that wipes clean easily, and they are very solid, I can't imagine anything breaking one of these. I have found that the one I use in the kitchen in combination with the S hooks has sustained a few tiny scratches in the months I've been using it, but the others look as good as new. I've especially found using these as a pot lid holder handy, as I was forever having to hunt around for the right lid before, but this keeps them displayed nicely against the inside of the cupboard door, and I can see at a glance the item I need.
I think the beauty of these is their flexibility - you could easily use one as a towel rail, for example, and my neighbour has one in her under sink cupboard that she has slotted various kitchen rolls and tin foils round. The only downside I have found with these is a really tiny one - the hooks make an irritating scratchy noise when slid along.
That's it, my only tiny moan. Five stars - simple, flexible, inventive storage or solid construction that will last forever. Read the complete review |
