Thomas Lloyd Furniture Reviews
Thomas Lloyd Lexington 3 Str Sofa
I ordered a chair from Thomas Lloyd before Christmas; I bought two sofas from them a couple of years back and was pleased with the quality. I am pleased with my chair too. However the delivery arrangements are very unhelpful; you are given several days notice that the delivery will be on one of two days - one of the days was impossible ... for me so I asked if the delivery could be the other day. I was told without apology "you'll get what you are given" making it clear I was lucky to get the chair at all (even though it had been promised a bit sooner). There is no appeal to a higher authority and sending an email is a farce - they say they will reply within five days - it's nearly ten WEEKS later I have not had a reply, just the original automatic acknowledgement.
Their claim that the delivery charge is only a contribution is piffle; they said they had 16 drops over two days - for which they would have been paid about £700 and tens of thousands of pounds worth of goods. My company delivers all over the country and is expected to arrive at a given time and we would go bust if we couldn't do it cheaper than Thomas Lloyd claim.
In the result we had to accept the wrong day and have the chair delivered 15 miles away and have it brought over in a van! After a lot of hassle we persuaded Thomas Lloyd to get the driver to ring in advance before arriving (as their pantechnican was too big to get within 100 yards of the house which could take it in) but even then I and the man and a van I had hired to bring it to my house was hanging about for a considerable time.
They say they were very busy before Christmas; lucky them - if people knew how they could be treated they might have a very quiet Christmas next year

Turin Black Table & Chairs
Having moved into a brand new house in November that is stylish unlike my last home I have slowly been trying to buy things that are just as stylish and suit my home and tastes well. I have been after a 'nice' table and chairs for ages for me and my twins to sit together at. Even though I already had one I wanted one a bit more modern ... that would suit my black and silver kitchen. Having 2 year old twins I needed one that would be quite safe, sturdy, not mark all that easy really as they are quite heavy handed and rough yet look good at the same time, I also didn't want to break the bank so about £100 was going to be my budget!
I browsed in argos first and spotted my perfect table, the Turin Black Table and Four Chairs which would cost me £99.99! If buying this table you can either pick it up in store if you drive or have a car or have it delivered if you are willing to pay the delivery charge and wait for it. The delivery charge is just under £6, but for people like myself who have no way of getting large and heavy packages home it's not bad.
A small picture of the table and chairs set is shown in the argos catalogue, and online to - so you do have the option of ordering or reserving online as well. It looked perfect, black table top and chair seats and the frames a modern silver. The picture you find in the catalogue or online is the one pictured above so you get a pretty clear idea of what it's going to look like for real!
If looking at this table there is a brief description of detail about it,
Size of table (L)120, (W)75, (H)75cm.
Size of chair (H)85, (W)43, (D)46cm.
*The measurements meant nothing to me but they could be useful for people trying to find a table to fit into a certain sized space etc.
Silver finish metal frame with black table top. 4 chairs with silver colour frames and black finish seat pads.
*You can see this in the photo provided in the catalogue or online.
Weight of table 18.7kg.
Weight of each chair 4.8kg.
2 person self assembly.
*I can perhaps see why they would state this but I did put it together fine on my own with little to no struggle so don't totally agree.
My table was delivered - late may I add in two seperate boxes, the table in one and the 4 chairs in the other - obviously not together which left me the run task of putting it together.
I began with the table as it was the largest and heaviest box, although not to heavy to handle. I ripped the cardboard open with the box laying flat as the table top is the heaviest part and I knew I wasn't going to be able to lift it out of it's tall box. Included in the table box is the black table top, 4 silver frame pieces, 4 silver legs, a bag of screws and an alan key as well as a sheet of instructions. The instructions advise you to lay the table top down flat whilst attaching the frame, which if you ask me is common sense anyway otherwise you'll never get a sturdy table. Each screw is marked by a letter and the instructions tell you to screw each piece to the table with a certain lettered screw making it easy to understand and follow. Pictures are drawn to give you an example of how things should look like and although they are just drawn they are quite clear and simple to follow.
Each piece of the frame I attached tight, yet not tightened fully to begin with until I had every piece of the silver frame and each metal leg attached. Once all attached loosely but knowing they were in the correct places and fitted right I screwed each screw in until they were tight and secure and the frame or legs couldn't be moved. This task took me about an hour to complete by myself and it was only when the table had to be turned onto it's legs did I need another person to help as it is a bit weighty and the legs make it hard to lift up on your own to turn it over. Once turned over it was a strong, sturdy and very stylish table that didn't shake nor wobble.
It was in fact the chairs which took me the longest as they were a bit more fiddly when it came to attaching the seat of the chair. Trying to hold the seat on and screw it in tightly on my own was a little awkward as the seat kept moving and the screws became loose but after mastering the first chair - after 3 quarters of an hour I must add the other three chairs were a breeze. They are now stylish, sleek chairs which match the table perfectly and the whole set compliments my kitchen lovely. The table top is a lovely material, hardwearing and has already took alot of bumps and knocks from my 2 year old twins without marking - touch wood! The table and the chairs are, thanks to it's rectangular shape quite compact and could fit into a few spaces unlike circle tables which I find quite awkward to find a place for. The table is easy to keep clean and overall I'm extremely pleased with it. I'd reccomend it to anybody, you can even buy it with a pine table top and pine chair seats so if the black and silver isn't your thing or it doesn't suit your kitchen or dining room then that could be your match. I think the price is reasonable and it is well worth the money. Theres just one downside and thats the amount of packaging it comes with, the huge boxes and the plastic bags, every single piece is placed in a bag and tied up, meaning a full bin afterwards but apart from this it's pretty easy to put together on your own, meaning it would be a breeze with more than one person and it looks smart and stylish to.

Thomas Lloyd Lexington 3 Str Sofa
My sofa and chairs were way overdue for renewal. My last suite was bought over 10 years ago from DFS. They had removable covers and I have bought two extra sets since I first purchased the suite. The last time I bought covers was three years ago and the it cost me a whopping £800 for new ones! They had 'gone again' so I ... thought I may as well buy a new suite as new covers would almost cost the same as a new one. Anyway it was really getting on my nerves - the cushions kept sliding off and there were lots of other annoying features about it.
I looked around the shops but could find nothing that I liked. I did a search on the internet and then I came across a company called sofasofa. I sent for a brochure from them. I liked the look of a leather sofa called the Lexington. It was a sofa made of leather but with fabric cushions. It looked good in the catalogue. I sent off for the samples. The fabric looked good and I liked the patterns.
I hummed and haaed though...as the nearest showroom is in Cardiff and I live near Manchester I felt it was too much of a trek to go down to Cardiff. I was reluctant to purchase the sofa without seeing it. How big would it be - would it look right in my room?
However I was finally swayed by the manufacturer's promise that they would give you 21 days to make up your mind. Iif it was not what you expected...also the price was very competitive for leather.
There was a sale on so I decided to go ahead. I liked the look of the Lexington sofa - it was leather based but had loose cushions in a darkish brown colour. (I don't particularly like totally leather suites.)
It boasted a non-tropical screwed and glued hardwood frame, heavy gauge serpentine steel seat springing , extalife fibre filled seat cushions, reversible seat and back cushions, hollow fill fibre back cushions and hand-studded front facings. The material would go really well with the rug I had in my living room.
Great I thought - this was just the sort of sofa I had been looking for. The cushions and the upholstery used won't show marks and the leather should be durable and easily cleaned and maintained. They also looked very comfortable and inviting. I felt that the sofa would provide years and years of use - yet look good and be comfortable too!
I ordered two Lexington sofas manufactured by Thomas Lloyd - a two seater and a three seater by telephone and also opted for the insurance protection for the leather and upholstery. I paid by credit card and there was a charge for this. The total cost was£1476 - not bad I thought for a 2 and 3 seater settee plus insurance.
After four weeks I was contacted with a delivery date. Unfortunately I was not at home when the sofa was delivered but my son 'saw the suite in. When I arrived home I couldn't wait to see it. I could smell the 'leather' as soon as I walked in the door.
The sofa looked good. The cushions and fabric were great. It took me a bit of time to get used to the new look in my living room. There were lots of cushions - in fact, too many. The sofa was extremely comfortable - very soft to sit on.
At first I was delighted with the sofa and, indeed, contacted them to order an additional armchair at a cost of £479 (which I have paid for but it has not yet arrived).
However, a day later I noticed several marks on the sofa...I became very anxious as nobody had misused the sofa ...just sitting on it - as you do with sofas...I began to think that I had done the wrong thing. Before I purchased the sofa I thought that leather was hard wearing and durable and that was the main reason that I had bought it...durability, easy to clean etc.. I felt that the leather was not 'up to scratch' to excuse the pun!!
In their defence, I do have to say that the sofas are well made and constructed and the range and type of sofas in their brochures and on their web site look superb quality. I guess it's just the nature of this particular type of leather... but I feel that I should have been told that it marks easily as I would not have purchased it with this knowledge.

The delivery team will then contact you to arrange a three hour delivery window. All furniture deliveries are undertaken by a two man delivery team who deliver the furniture to the room of your choice. Should you wish they will remove all packaging and allow you to inspect your new upholstery before they leave.
If your new furniture will not fit into your house they will take it back to the factory and offer you a refund or alternative size or model. If the furniture has been delivered into your house but you feel it is too big for the room or will not fit into the room of your choice they will collect it and again offer you a refund or exchange
Their Double Guarantee
1. You have three weeks from the day of delivery to change your mind. If, when your furniture arrives, and for whatever reason it is not what you expected, they will remove it and refund your money. Alternatively you can exchange to a different model, colour or size. You just need to write a letter of your decision to return or exchange the furniture within 21 days and they will organise a collection date. A collection charge of £25 is payable. However delivery and credit card fees are non refundable.
2. There is also a two year guarantee which covers any defect in manufacture and materials, allowing for fair wear and tear. In the unlikely event of a claim, they will collect, repair and return the furniture to you entirely free of charge.
One of the problems about buying furniture without seeing it is that you can't try it out first. Also, should you have cause to change your mind it does cost for the delivery and there is also the hassle involved about being without a sofa / armchairs etc till the matter is sorted. Furthermore, the initial delivery charge and credit card fees are non refundable.
