My bathroom was looking a bit shoddy so I decided it was time to redecorate. The bathroom is very small only 5ft x 7ft so as you can imagine storage space is at a premium.
Not wanting wooden shelving, or plastic shelving I was left with the choice of metal and glass. As previous experience has taught me shelving that is majority metal is a big no no in such a damp atmosphere as a bathroom. My last set of wall shelves had turned into a rusty eye sore.
I was starting to wonder if I would ever find something that met my fussy needs, lots of space but compact, not to expensive, not wood or plastic and minimum metal when I came across the Aquarius three tier glass wall unit on littlewoods.com. The shelves are quite overpriced at £26.00 but I had some commission and decided to use it on these, making them the bargain of the month.
The shelves are like the ones shown in the dooyoo picture and fool that I am I thought they would be delivered ready to hang on the wall, so when a flat rectangular box arrived I popped it to one side for Mr H to pop together.
The instructions claim this unit needs two men half an hour to pop together, so I put the kettle on and carefully observed while my husband pieced it together. The struts for each shelf need attaching individually, don't over tighten these as you will need some wriggle room to get the glass shelves to sit comfortably. Each strut has two sticky pads that need putting on for the glass shelf to sit on, and each shelf has drilled holes for the screws to go through that hold it in its place. The screws are nicely finished with large flat heads that are safe and attractive. Once all three shelves are attached you can tighten the whole unit up and put all the end caps in place finishing the unit off nicely. It took one man half an hour to put together.
The unit screws quite simply to the wall enter Mr H and his drill. We always use our own wall fixings as the ones supplied look a bit light weight. One screw goes through the top bar and another through the bottom bar securing the unit to the wall. Don't forget to use a spirit level to ensure the unit is straight.
The completely built unit is larger than I expected, (H60cm x W49cm x D21cm) the space between the shelves is 23cm which is a bonus as all my tall shampoos, conditioners, shower gels and bubble baths fit between the shelves with ease. The storage space is brilliant and I no longer have bottles and tubs dotted all around the sides of the bath.
The chromed finish of the shelving unit is highly polished and very nice to look at. The glass shelves are made from clear tempered glass and come with warning labels on that are easy to peel off. As the shelves are glass common sense is needed, do not place extremely hot/cold items on the shelves, do not hit shelves with pointed objects, do not sit on the shelves (these are the warnings on the labels) do not clean with abrasive cleaners. The corners of the shelves are not rounded so care is needed when moving around near the shelves as I imagine a knock on the head from one would be pretty painful.
The unit is advertised as a bathroom unit but I personally think it would fit comfortably into most rooms in a house.
In conclusion I am very happy with the Aquarius three tier glass wall unit, the build quality is excellent, it was pretty easy for my husband to put together and attach to the wall and the extra storage space for my lotions and potions is brilliant. I am saving up my commission for another set to put up in the kitchen. I am knocking off a star as it comes flat packed.
