Advantages: Comfy, Cheap, Easy to Assemble

Disadvantages: Seat Could Be Thicker

The Argos High Back Leather Faced Manager's Chair is a real bargain buy at only £44.99. I chose this one as a replacement for my last chair, because it struck me as being a good compromise between being affordable and being comfortable, and I haven't been disappointed at all.

When I received this chair, it came flat-packed as most of Argos's items do. So I had to set to work assembling it before anything else. The pieces were all quite simple to get together, though there was an element of brute force involved in slotting the back and seat together before adding the screws to tighten. The instructions were clear enough to follow without having to think too hard (which I don't like having to do), and the tools I needed that weren't provided only included a simple screwdriver.

Once assembled, this chair was ready to go straight away. The gas-lift mechanism surprised me by being extremely effective, despite coming as part of a fairly cheap flat-pack kit! It was good to use from the moment I had the chair assembled, and it didn't require an actual assembly to be operable - it came complete and just needed to be slotted into place.

What I like the most about this chair over the £20 swivel chairs you can buy, is that it's got nice comfy arm rests. It's brilliant for when you're surfing the net using just your mouse, and want somewhere comfortable to stash your spare arm! The back is very comfortable too, and provides me with good support. The only thing that I think could be improved here comfort-wise is the seat. It's a little bit too thin to be really comfortable for anything more than half an hour at a time for me, so I often put a cushion on the seat to improve this.

Finally what I like about this is the appearance. It looks like it costs a good £20 more than it actually does. The leather is polished and smooth, with a soft, shiny feel to it. The arm rests are sleek and well designed, and the whole chair looks smart pushed up against the computer desk in our living area.

For £45 I think I'd have been hard pushed to get a nicer looking and more comfortable office chair. I do think the thickness of the seat padding could be thicker and more comfortable, but I don't think it's particularly bad - just a minor point that could be improved on. This has to get four stars from me.

Summary: Highly Recommended
