      I would recommend it

Buying furniture, for me, can be very tricky. In my mind I would have an image of a piece of specific furniture that I'd like to buy, but in reality, I would struggle to find it in the shops.

I had the same problem when I was updating my living room. I knew that I needed a small beech unit so I could place a large lamp on top, but I also needed some storage for couple of catalogues/newspapers underneath and a drawer.

Browsing through Argos online catalogue, I couldn't find anything in the living room furniture section that was suitable, so I did type in the search box 'beech furniture'. Well, I am glad I did, as Modena 1 drawer bedside chest came up. I have never thought of looking in a bedroom section for something that I need for my living room.

Modena 1 drawer bedside furniture is:

      Packed flat

      Comes in different finishes

Has silver coloured feet and a silver handle

      Has 1 drawer

      1 person assembly

      Size H47, W34.3, D35.2cm

I did what I always do when shopping in Argos, reserve online and go to pick it up myself. It was 8.5kg which was very easy and light for me to carry to the car.

When I arrived home I took all the parts out of the box. They were all counted for, but unfortunately the handle was snapped in half. Usually I would return it straight back to the shop, but as I really liked this unit I decided to read the instruction that came with the unit. The instructions were on 15 (A4) pages and very easy to follow as they were step by step explained. On the back page there was a customer helpline number in case any parts are missing or damaged, so I rang the number. Within 2 min of giving the product number and description, to a very pleasant and apologetic lady, I was promised that the part would be with me in the next few days. And it was. So I carried on with assembling the bedside chest.

All the parts were labeled with small bright orange stickers with numbers on, and therefore very easy to identify them. In the instructions there was also a ruler that helped identify the right length of the screws which was brilliant. And I have to point out that for someone like me who is not a great fan of DIY, this was a great help.

It did take me just under 2 hours to put it all together. The reason being: I didn't use the cams properly so my furniture was swaying, as I was putting it together. I read the instruction again and realized that I wasn't locking cams properly in place. Once I did that, the unit was fine and very sturdy.

The bedside chest sits next to my sofa in the living room, with a large lamp on top and few catalogues and newspapers on the bottom shelf. The drawer is great for odd bits that I like to keep in the living room. It looks simple, but modern and with its silver feet and silver handle it matches the rest of the furniture.

The only downside is that the drawer doesn't slide as easy as I would like it, but I am not sure if that is down to my assembling or not. But as I don't open that drawer daily, it's ok.

So for that reason I am giving 4/5 stars.

ps forgot to say the price. it is £24.99 but at the time of my purchase it was £19.99 (few months ago) but would have paid the full price as it was an ideal piece of furniture for me.

A nice looking bedside cabinet that needs a bit of tlc to stay in good shape

For weeks since moving into my flat I had no bedroom furniture. Not only because of money being tight but also because I wasn't sure about what to get and I needed alot of furniture for my rather large room as I own so much stuff!

The problem I had wasn't just watching the pennies like I just said but I did want economy items but not that looked cheap and nasty. I knew from the offset that I wanted dark furniture, reasonably priced and thats when I stumbled across this 'Modena' range and it came in the Wenge finish (dark wood option which is shown at the top of this page) as well as beach and white which is what I wanted. Personally I felt that this looked a bit more expensive than the other two options and I do have a lot of light streaming into my bedroom and this costing £22.45 a cabinet seemed a right bargain to me so I grabbed a couple from the store pleased they were so cheap and looked so nice in the catalogue.

They come flat packed in a box with instructions and the instructions (according to my boyfriend were easy to follow).

        The Bedside Cabinet:

What you get is 9 pieces of dark polished wood you can see a sort of grain within and each piece of the wood has labels on it that are coded and if you follow the instruction leaflet you are told how to use those codes to fit it all together. You also get all the screws and fittings (and a couple left over), 4 silver plastic feet and a long silver coloured plastic handle plus silver runners for inside of the drawer.

When made up this measures H39.1, W50, D35.2cm so its a really decent size and Argos say only one person is needed to make this up which is right and this took my boyfriend about 45 minutes to put up all by himself and he had no problems with a hammer and a screwdriver at all for once lol.

This looks really nice when put up. It's shiny but not overly so. The top of it is strong so you pop your bits and bobs on there though you do have to be careful not to scratch it. The drawer is large and rather deep and can take a lot of weight though like with the rest of the Modena range you do have to be careful with the handle as it is flimsy and I worry it will snap if I pull it at an angle by mistake or anything though it does look really nice.

Under the drawer you have a huge gap though the gap is open so its best to shove it against a wall or stuff will plop out of the other side of it but its a handy book shelf or whatever and I appreciate the extra storage space that it gives though you did need to keep it tidy or it looks a right state lol. The plastic feet mean that my flooring is protected and it doesn't move and all in all I am really pleased with this bedside cabinet....apart from the rubbish handle and the fact that I can't fully take the drawer out if I want to!

This is suitable for anyone who likes modern, sleek lines though maybe not for a child, teenager or someone heavy handed due to the handle but great if you take care of your things and I would think brilliant to spruce up a guest bedroom! I like this whole range of this furniture and it does look very smart indeed even if I do say so myself lol.

        Only available in Argos stores.
