A good buy but handle it with care!

When I moved into my flat my biggest concern was would there be enough room in my bedroom for a dressing table! I've always wanted one with a nice mirror and a little chair to get ready at and after living in a caravan and squatting at my friends pub and living out of suitcases for a few months prior to finding my home I felt that I really, really needed and deserved one lol.

I decided early on that as my bedroom is a neutral colour and with lots of natural light I wanted all dark furniture. Add to that, that I had so much to purchase for my new home I really seriously had to watch my pennies and that I had been looking at economy purchases to begin with in light woods, that were not wood but a covered sort of veneer and to me looked cheap and a bit nasty! I needed so much furniture for my bedroom too and I wanted the range I had to be matching and this being in a 'wenge' finish which is dark and costing only £44.99 I really didn't expect much from this dressing table but to me it seemed a good start and did have matching furniture to go with it!

The dressing table comes in a large box basically telling you what it is and measurements and contact details for Argos are given. Inside this comes flat packed and with all the screws, hinges and the one handle you need plus a couple of silver runners for the drawers and some stoppers for the bottom of the unit to stop it damaging your flooring.

There is a huge instruction leaflet given as well that is very informative and easy to follow and 2 people are recommended to erect this though saying that my boyfriend put it up for me in about an hour flat and didn't struggle with any aspect of putting it up.

This was actually dressing table number 3 and I ended up taking 2 back before settling for this one. The first one had a huge scratch over the top of the dressing table that was really highly visible. The second the table top was smashed to the back of it and had a huge chip out of the drawer. I did say I settled for this one as even this had a scratch to the top of it but in the end I was sick of all the problems and decided to live with it as it wasn't so bad and have since put a mirror over it so no one can see it anyway!

This though was easy enough to put up though to be fair to it. The whole size of it is H71, W100, D38.8cm so its pretty long and not too wide. You get 11 bits of wood to assemble which are all coded so you know what goes where via sticky labels (that peel off with ease) and all the screws and things are provided and you do get a couple of spare ones too and they all fit with ease into the holes that are in the wood so you don't have to mess about.

You get a big table (in my case dark looking, slightly grained wood that is highly polished) and then one drawer with a long silver coloured plastic handle and two huge and rather deep spaces of storage areas to the right side of the unit. The drawer is rather strong and pulls out with ease though the handle is flimsy and not very sturdy and the storage areas give loads of room though you can see the stuff you put on there cos it's not a covered area of course (so keep it tidy lol). The table top is shiny (like the rest of the unit) and there is a huge hole where you can pop a stool under in or a chair and that gives plenty of leg room.

This is a modern looking, simple looking dressing table that is really functional and feels sturdy and doesn't scratch easily. I like the shape and the square edges and simplicity of its design and it really has been a good investment for me. My only moan is the handle and I'm sure that it won't hold out for long without snapping off eventually but this makes a good buy for someone who is aware they have to be careful with said handle though maybe not good for a teenager or a heavy handed person! Great if you want something cheap and cheerful and use it with respect and great for a spare bedroom etc. I'm glad overall I opted for this particular dressing table anyway!

Also available in Beech and White finishes and only from Argos.
