A few months ago, we made over the grandson's bedroom including a new bed and furniture. We wanted him to have something a bit more mature than the toddler bedroom he had. We also didn't want to spend too much money knowing he was highly likely to swing off the furniture at some point and break it! So we went with Argos and chose the Modena range.
This 2 door robe retails at a reasonable £67.45. It presently has 20% off on the Argos website, making it only £53.99. It had money off it when we purchased ours, so that's around the price we paid. For the money, I don't think we can complain.
This came totally flat packed in quite a small/narrow box. I was a bit surprised that it was a whole wardrobe in the box actually! Fortunately, once fully assembled, it was a perfectly good size for a child to have. We use the hanging rail for his clothes, and the bottom of the wardrobe doubles up as storage for his laundry basket. You could add a second hanging rail in here if you wanted to and felt the narrow width wasn't sufficient. I think it's fine for a little boy though with the dimensions: H178.7, W66.8, D48.8cm.
The wood is decent quality, and the finish is really attractive. The back of the wardrobe is a little thin, and this definitely could not stand to be shaken around too much either. I didn't expect solid pine for a little over £50 though! My only gripe is really that no matter what I did, I could not get the wardrobe doors to line up smoothly. Perhaps I gave up trying too soon, but after half an hour of faffing around, I decided it didn't matter if there was a half a centimeter overlap when the doors are shut. It's not bothered the grandson, and I don't have to look at it all day so I decided to just not care in the end!
I think I have to go with four stars for this. If I wanted something that was excellent quality, I would have paid an excellent quality price tag. I didn't, I paid just over £50, and for that amount of money, I got a real bargain. The wardrobe is decent quality, likely to last for a years to come, it's attractively designed and coloured (we chose the blue and white version) and most importantly - cheap! What's more, with it being Argos, you can go and pick it up in store if you want to - so you can get it at short notice and without paying any delivery fees either.
Needing wardrobes for my bedroom I was looking for a dark wood option, something unfussy but classy looking and something that wasn't going to cost me an arm and leg because I needed alot of furniture for my large bedroom and have a lot of things to store (and I mean alot lol).
I spotted this in the wenge (dark) finish in Argos (also in beach and in white) and needing two of them I felt they were a brilliant option for me costing £67.45 each.
This comes flat packed in a plain box with a photograph of it on the front of it made up then on the back of it sizes are given and contact details for Argos are given. Argos recommend that two people are needed to assemble this.
What you get in the pack is 7 pieces of wood, 4 plastic feet and a couple of silver long plastic handles (for the doors, hinges and screws and things. The instruction leaflet inside the packaging is very thorough and all pieces of wood have codes on them so you can put them together with ease, following the instructions given.
You also get one silver hanging rail of which you put in brackets into the wardrobe that doesn't move about once inserted and is rather strong. You also get a couple of rubber stoppers you attach to the bottom of the inside of the wardrobe so it lines up correctly when you close the doors.
Me and my boyfriend found the most part of this wardrobe rather easy to put together however hanging the doors so they met up plush was a bit of a pig and all in all in all both wardrobes took a couple of hours each to assemble, mainly for that reason.
However they do look nice but don't provide a lot of room for clothes really and of course this is just a hanging robe but a very long one given the measurements are H178.7, W66.8, D48.8cm. The wood is shiny with grain under that shine.
My only beef with this entire range of Modena furniture is the handles that are provided. They are only thin plastic one's and while they look nice enough and rather modern that are flimsy and look like they could break easily if used the wrong way. However the units are sturdy when erected right and in my opinion good value for money and probably best for people not too heavy handed or spare/guest bedrooms. They look nice and simple and do what I require them to do very well indeed!
