“ Brand: Argos / Type: Cabinet „
I was looking some storage for my daughters bedroom and I was going to buy some modular cubes from Ikea, it was only when I was in work last saturday that I saw the modular cubes and this cupboard on offer. Instead of the usual £34.99 the items were better than half price at £13.99 I was also pleased to see that they were on a 3 for 2 promotion so I got one storage cube and two of the cupboards in pink for just £27.98.
The items were flat packed and the boxes were a small size making them easy to fit in the car and carry. The only downside was that each box weighed 15kg. Luckily one of the staff helped me carry them out.
The only tools you need to assemble these are a small hammer and a Philips screwdriver. I put these together myself and each unit took me about 15 minutes. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, the screws were separated out in different plastic sections. You have to construct the base and the sides first then you attach the doors before attaching the top section and finally the back panel. I had no problems putting any of it together.
The cupboard when it is finished is 60cm by 60cm. The doors make the product look really nice there is a dark pink and a pale pink door, the doors are finished with plastic silver handles. The cupboard looks sturdy. The shelf inside can be placed on 3 different levels I chose to place it on the middle level. The great thing about these storage units is they can be stacked on top of each other and there is a metal plate that comes in the pack that can be used to secure the units together.
We have filled one with my daughter's books as she has so many, and the second one has larger toys stored inside. It is tall enough so my daughters abacus and bead frame can fit inside. You can also buy canvas boxes that match the furniture to slide inside.
I really like this furniture it looks a lot more expensive than what it is. It holds lots of items and can be moved around and placed in a way that fits in with your room. 5 out 5 from us.
... and everything in it's place my Gran used to say. Unfortunately the genes for organizational skills passed me by. Still I have found with young children, having handy cupboard spaces makes cleaning up so much easier. It also means when the children want a toy, it is easy to find, so no more toy boxes emptied onto the floor in search of the one at the bottom.
Several months ago, I ended up buying my son the matching cabinets to this with quarter doors, and a set of shelves in the middle, simply because they were out of blue. When suggesting the items for the review, I noticed they now have blue in, and thought how much nicer this would look then the plain white shelves in the middle. Long story short, I ended up getting this and replacing the plain white unit with it.
While the other units in this range are divided into four compartments, this opens up to reveal only two. One long shelf divides this unit leaving storage space inside 11 1/4" high for the bottom shelf ( bottom of unit), and 10 1/2" for the top shelf. This allows bigger items, like Action Man Motorbikes to be stuffed inside.
Also because it has doors, the items do not need to be lined up nicely, but the boys can just jam them in whichever way fits, and the doors will conceal the fact that the toys are all jumbled up inside.
The overall size of this unit is 2' x 2' x1'. I find three fit perfectly under my son's midi bed. I really like the colours on this too, the light blue and dark blue looking lovely against the bright white background. I think a set of these all with the big doors would look too much though, and I think having the two on the ends with the quarter drawers breaks the pattern up and makes a much nicer look. Although I would have preferred to have had all blue, it really does look nice with the end units pink, especially since my son has multicolour panels on his bed too.
Argos seems to have a running promotion offering these at £ 34.99 each, with a buy two get one free special. In addition to this unit, they offer the same with 2 quarter drawers, and one divided into quarters with no doors with colour choices of blue and white or pink and white. To be honest, I do not think one of these would look terribly nice on it's own, but in a set of three it really is lovely. I believe these could be wall mounted, but brackets for this are not supplied. this is also very heavy ( 13.7 kg) and so would need a solid wall and heavy mounting brackets. Apparently they can also be stacked, which would look very nice, but also require separate brackets to hold them together, or they can be used like we have them, just lined up on the floor. I think having them on the floor is best for a child's room, as it keeps everything in easy reach for the child.
I really love this unit and so does my son. Like most children he loves having doors to open and close, and a cubby hole to put his toys. I honestly think this encourages both boys to put the toys away after use. I have also found these units to be very solid and well made.
Like most Argos furnishings this comes flat packed. Assembly was quick and easy though, and not only has my husband put ours together he has now assembled a neighbours as well. I would say assembly took less then 30 minutes per unit, with no major problems. He did have one which had a screw hole not completely drilled through, but was able to correct this easily enough. These get my complete recommendation, and are one of those items I just don't know why we didn't buy sooner.
