Advantages: Keeps toiletries close to hand and helps to keep the bathroom tidy.
Disadvantages: Will eventually rust
About this time last year, as Christmas was fast approaching, my husband and I (I sound like the queen!) decided that the bathroom needed a quick and not too expensive, make over. It wasn't that long before that it had been decorated but, as we tend to get a lot of condensation in this room, it doesn't stay looking good for very long. Because of this we tend to not go for expensive fittings and accessories. It simply just isn't worth paying out for expensive items that won't look good for very long. However good they are they won't last for long and will need replacing often. The walls were alright, so hubby simply painted the ceiling and the paintwork. We bought new PVC blinds and some accessories to brighten everything up.
The first accessory we looked for was something to go on the wall at the end of the bath, where the shower is housed. We opted for the two tier chrome shower caddy from B & Q, as it goes with the look we have in there. I would say it's a bit hotel bathroom in style.
Really, because of the damp it would probably be best if we had white plastic fittings but these aren't to be seen very often nowadays. Chrome or wood seem to be the most popular choices. I like the chrome look but knew it would rust in the not too distant future.
We purchased this from Band Q visiting the store to complete the purchase. I had already perused their website to see what was on offer.
This shower caddy looks good. It is a simple, modern design. We already have a chrome towel rail and some other chrome items so it fits in with everything already in the bathroom. Both shelves are enclosed buy chrome effect wiring with the top shelf shallower than the lower shelf.
My husband fitted this on the bathroom wall using an electric drill. It fits onto the wall with screws needing to be fixed into the wall. It took about fifteen to twenty minutes to secure. Screws and fittings are supplied with the caddy and instructions given. Really it is so simple that instructions aren't necessary.
Once fitted it's a great item to have. It holds a good selection of items on its two shelves. I manage to fit into the lower shelf, which has a higher guard around it, a few large bottles of shampoo and conditioner and shower gels. On the top shelf I will put anything of a smaller size as it isn't held as securely on this top shelf. It's ideal for smaller containers of shampoo and shower gels and creams. Any tubes fit here nicely.
We have it placed on the same wall as the shower, but in a position where the shower spray goes above it and misses directly wetting it.
I like the shower caddy because, obviously, it's is ideal to have any necessary toiletries for use in the shower to hand, in an easy to reach position. Also, I personally don't like bottles and containers left on the sides and ends of the bath. I've got to say though, that few of my family actually manage to replace a shampoo or shower gel in its rightful place on the caddy's shelves. It's the same with the towels. We have hooks and towel rails, but has my daughter discovered the best way to hang up a towel? No, they are all bundled up on one rail, and usually fall on the floor, that's if they actually leave her room! Moan over, just those of you with male offspring and no daughters don't think being undomesticated is solely a man thing!
Anyway, back to the item under scrutiny. Now we have had this in our bathroom for nearly a year and it is just beginning to rust a little. I think it will last a fair bit longer and still look smart.
