      A nice little storage unit

When me and my husband first moved into our house nearly 4 years ago we needed to buy everything new, we didn't have hardly any furniture other than some bedroom furniture, we only have a small lounge but wanted some sort of unit for storage and for display in there but obviously didn't want anything too big and bulky. We had a look around and came across the Boston Basic Units in Argos, there are three different styles of unit and we actually ended up buying all of them. One of these units is the Boston Basic Modular 2 Half Doors Unit, it is ideal for both display purposes as well as storage so combined with the other units was perfect for our lounge.

      Packaging
The Boston Basic Modular 2 Half Doors Unit comes flat packed in a plain brown box, from what I can remember of the packaging it was rather plain and had the name of the product on it. There was no real packaging inside the box just a small plastic bag which contained all of the screws, fittings and the door handles for the cupboard doors, also inside the box was an instruction leaflet stating how the unit was to be assembled.

      The Unit
This unit is basically half a display unit and half cupboards, the Boston Basic Modular 2 Half Door Unit is not overly large, which is what we wanted, it measures 60cm (H) x 60cm (W) x 29.9cm (D) The unit is basically split into four squares, there is an open shelf and a cupboard at the top and the same at the bottom of the unit, the cupboards are diagonal to each other so you basically have a shelf on top of a cupboard.
The two shelves are basically the same as the cupboards but without the doors making them a little on the narrow side but quite deep.

You can purchase this unit in either Beech or Oak, we went for the Beech effect unit, we were pleased with the colour, it was not too dark but on the other hand not too light, it also has a flat top which can also be used for display. The cupboards have two small round silver handles on them and they click in place with a small magnet on the inside, this stops them from swinging open.

The whole unit when assembled is very sturdy, it does not wobble at all, the wood is of a good thickness and strong, the units if you purchase more than one are also suitable for stacking on top of each other which is what we have done with two of ours.

      Assembly
When assembling the Boston Basic Modular 2 Half Doors Unit it really was quite easy, the unit comes with an instruction leaflet containing diagrams and it is recommended that it takes two people to assemble. Me and my Mum actually put this unit together before we started living in our house whilst my Husband and Dad put together the larger furniture, we really didn't have any problems with it, the instruction leaflet was reasonably simple to follow as far as these sort of instruction leaflets go.
I have to agree that you do need two people to put this together, whilst it is simply to do its handy to have someone to help hold the frame together whilst the other person puts in the screws as it would be quite tricky to hold the parts together and use a screwdriver.

      Price and Availability
As I have mentioned the Boston basic Modular 2 Half Doors Unit was purchased from Argos, we just purchased it in store and took it away with us that day, although it is also available online and can be delivered if you require. The unit is sold for £24.99 at the moment, however it is currently on offer and should be £36.99, although when we purchased it the unit was a bit cheaper than it is now and also if you purchased 3 of the units you also got money off the total which is what we did.
Personally I think they are reasonably priced, they are strong and hardwearing and definitely worth the money, we have had ours nearly 4 years and despite constant use it still looks as good as new.

      My Opinion
We have been extremely pleased with our Boston Basic Modular 2 Half Doors, the two cupboards are used to store all of our DVD's, when me and my husband moved in together it resulted in quite a large DVD collection which we had no where to keep, however with this unit we have somewhere to keep all of them where they are easily accessible but out of the way.

The two shelves are used to display family photos and other smaller items that we want to have out on display, whilst they are not massive shelves they are ideal to display smaller items in your house, and the depth of the shelves means that you can keep more breakable things away from the edge of the shelves.

The unit has worn well despite constant use, and still looks as good as new, I personally like the fact that the doors click shut with small magnets as it stops them from swinging open. I would highly recommend the Boston Basic Modular 2 Half Doors Unit, it was very reasonably priced a was ideal for our lounge.
