As you may see from previous reviews when me and my husband moved into our house we bought ourselves a couple of units to have in our lounge for both storage and display. We decided on the Boston Basics Modular Range as these were reasonably priced and we could also stack them and mix and match the styles we wanted.
One of the units we purchased was the Boston Basics Modular 4 Box, this is basically a display unit rather than one for storage, however it was ideal for our lounge as it allows us to display a few photos we have framed and a few other items we have in our lounge.
The Boston Basics Modular 4 Box comes flat packed in a square cardboard box, the packaging it pretty plain with just the name of the product on it, inside the box there was no other packaging from what I can remember, just a small plastic bag containing all of the screws and fittings needed to assemble the unit. The packaging was just a little larger than the unit inside meaning there was not a lot of room for it to move around in therefore limiting any damage that could be caused.
This particular unit is quite similar to the other Boston Basics Modular Unit (previous review), but instead of containing 2 small cupboards the Boston Basics Modular 4 Box contains 4 square display sections.
The unit itself is square and is then divided into 4 small sections which make up small shelves, the style of the unit is quite simple, however with one or two items displayed in the sections to co-ordinate with your room it is effective. What I liked about the Boston Basics Modular Units is the fact that they are not too large and bulky, we have quite a small lounge, but these fit in it perfectly without taking up too much room, this particular unit measure 60cm (H) x 60cm (W) x 29.9cm (W) obviously all of the units in this rage are the same size wise so that they can easily be stacked, for us the unit was the ideal size, the unit is also reasonably light weight 11.8Kg so it is easy to move around should you wish, even I was able to lift the units alone without too much problem.
This unit comes in 2 wood effects beech and oak, we opted for the beech as we found it went better with the rest of our furniture and colour scheme in the lounge.
As I have mentioned the Boston Basics Modular 4 Box Unit comes flat packed, it is stated that it requires 2 people to put this together, personally I have to agree with this, whilst the actual process is reasonably simple it can be a bit tricky to hold the parts together and screw in the screws at the same time, it is handy to have someone to hold the unit whilst the other fixes the pieces together, once the main frame of the unit is assembled the rest is reasonably quick and easy and could be done alone.
The unit does come with instructions consisting of diagrams, these were quite easy to follow as far as flat pack instructions go, however I did find that we didn't really need them as there was nothing complicated about putting this unit together.
We purchased our Boston Basics Modular 4 Box Unit from Argos, it is currently being sold for £19.99. Personally I think this is a reasonably price for this item as it is sturdy even when the units are stacked and it is well made, I would be more than happy to pay full price for this item.
We have had our Boston Basics Modular 4 Box Unit for a few years now and have been very pleased with it, we have ours stacked on top of the Boston Basics Modular 2 Half Doors Unit (previously reviewed) giving the effect of a large unit.
We have a some framed photos in some of the storage sections and a couple of nic nacs in the others, we also use the top of the unit as a large shelf too with a picture of our wedding on the top.
The unit is very sturdy, on occasions one of our cats Layla has decided to jump on top of the unit and sit there, it has not moved or wobbled at all.
This unit is very reasonably priced and would be ideal in any room where you wanted a display unit, the only down side you could say is that it only comes in 2 colours, for us this wasn't a problem as 1 of these shades was exactly what we wanted, however should you require something really light or dark you would be disappointed.
Overall I would highly recommend the Boston Basics Modular 4 Box Unit as an excellent quality and very reasonably priced display units.
