Advantages: Looks nice and keeps towels looking tidy and within reach.
Disadvantages: None really.
I had a chrome towel rail which became rusted (I've explained in previous reviews about condensation problem on my home's outside walls, and especially the bathroom. ) When, about a year ago, my bathroom was treated to a makeover, and we extended the wall panelling, I purchased many new fittings for this room. One that I gave quite a lot of thought to was a new shelf unit to be fixed to the wall above the bath, and the opposite end to the shower. I knew that it would rust, as had the previous shelving unit, but the problem with the last version was that the shelves were metal and they had rusted and marked my white towels. I bought the previous shelves from B & Q, but I think the cheaper version of the shelf I am reviewing, sold in Argos, will cause the same problem-it has metal shelves which if rusts will perhaps mark the towels before you even notice any rust. I looked for a chrome type shelf in many retailers before deciding on the Chrome and Glass D Shaped Wall Shelf Unit from Argos.
I chose this particular unit because:
*The price of £19.95 was around the price I was expecting to pay.
*I liked the look of it. It was what I had in mind.
* Because the shelves are made from glass I believed that this might safeguard my towels.
As with many similar products it was flat packed. Assembly was minimal and easy. All fixtures and fittings, as well as instructions, are included in the pack. As we had new wall panelling on the bathroom wall where this was to be placed, my husband fixed this and no previous holes were visible in the wall. He used an electric drill to fit the unit in place. The unit fits at the end of the bath and is high enough to not get splashed but in an ideal position to reach a clean towel when stepping out of the bath.
My bathroom has several towel rails and hooks. These shelves are used for clean towels. I find, now that I have this, I can free up shelf space in my airing cupboard, where I had previously stored all of my clean towels. Now I only need this for spares.
Although I loved the large white towels, I've given upon them and now mostly use beige towels, and chocolate coloured towels. I find this way the bathroom looks good with one set of towels in use, or indeed, with a mixture, as they blend nicely. But I still prefer to keep each shelf of this unit for one colour.
The two glass shelves of this unit nicely holds an assortment of folded towels-bath sheets and bath sized towels. On the loose rails hanging below I find I can neatly hang a bath mat on the one nearest to the wall and a small towel on the outermost one. This unit looks tidy and fashionable, whether full or not. I like the way that it helps to keep the bathroom tidy.
It has stayed in a good condition. I think it may soon begin to need some treatment around the fixings, but this is only due to my bathroom being even wetter than most! The glass shelves have remained good and the towels keep nice and clean when stored on here for a day or two, until used.
Of course, this unit doesn't have to be used for towels and will provide a nice area for toiletries, giving a decent amount of space for storage.
This wall unit was exactly what I was looking for. I think it was easily worth the price that I paid, and very importantly to me, it achieved the desired effect.
Current selling price-£19.95.
