Advantages: Sturdy, big, stylish
Disadvantages: None for me (or Sofia)
After the 20 weeks scan, we were over the moon to find that we were going to have a girl who is perfectly healthy. My first pregnancy didn't have happy ending and so to celebrate this good news, my mother in law wanted to take us shopping to be the first one to buy something for the baby (she didn't know what yet) We have decided to head over to Peterborough to the Kiddicare store. I was really excited to browse through baby staff and whilst we were looking through the nursery furniture my mother in law decided that she wanted to purchase a cot bed of my choice for our baby.
It was not easy to decide as we really were spoilt for choice but at the end we chose the Cosatto Hogarth cot bed in light natural pine colour. The first thing that impressed me about it was how solid, safe and stylish it looked. In addition we were helping the planet by buying this cot. Cosatto in partnership with Carbon Clear supports small groups of farmers around the world in planting trees with a wide variety of nutritional, medicinal and argricultural uses. So every time they sell a piece of wooden furniture, they will plant one tree!!!!
Cot bed was delivered (free of charge) 2 days after we ordered it which I thought was outstanding, I didn't really care then though as I was not going to need it for another 17 weeks. It came packaged in two massive boxes. It took my husband around an hour to assemble it for the first time, when he was doing it his 4th time (due to moving cot bed to our bedroom and then back to the nursery), it only took him half an hour. Easy to follow instructions were also included, even I was able to figure out by looking at it, how would I put it together.
Cot bed itself is made out of wood and in my opinion is very stylish looking. Its external dimensions are L148 x W89 x H103cm and internal dimensions are L140 x W70cm and so you would need to purchase the mattress of this size to fit in it. This cot bed ticks all the boxes in terms of what we needed. It's suitable from birth (to approx. 6 years), has 3 position adjustable base and one handed drop side. In addition, both sides of the cot bed have teething rails. With it being a cot bed, we can eventually convert it to junior bed or a sofa (as advertised) which basically means just removing one of the two rails. Due to its size, the cot bed doesn't fit through the standard door so I suggest you assemble it in the room you want it to stay in.
My daughter (Sofia) hated moses basket so she slept in this cot bed since she was 1 week old and first night she was in it, she slept for 6 hours straight!!! And she continues to have good night sleep in it. I really love it too and honestly cannot find single fault about it. We have got it in natural brown colour just like on the picture above however they do white and dark brown/black versions too. At the time of choosing this cot, I actually was torn between white and the natural brown, at the end we thought that it will go better with the nursery theme we chose.
Sofia is now 21 months old and still sleeps in this cot bed (in cot bed mode). It is still going strong as a matter of fact; I failed to find any signs of wear on it. Sofia has not used the teething rails but she does use the cot as a trampoline every morning. This doesn't affect the cot bed at all, we might need to buy new mattress eventually though.
The rail can be dropped down very easily and just by using one hand only. All you need to do is lift the rail a little, push it in at the bottom using your leg and slide down. Anyone who has back problems will love this feature which makes putting baby to bed so much easier. It also prevents you from getting back problems too however I do not use it and just keep it up all the time.
Overall I am very happy with our choice of cot bed and would be happy to recommend it to anyone. It is very sturdy and very well made, stylish and I can definitely see it lasting for years. Sofia has got loads of room in it to sleep comfortably and she even has room for panda, tiger and Dee Dee dragon to sleep with her too.
Cosatto Hogarth cot bed can be purchased at Argos, Kiddicare or Amazon and few others. Current price is around £230 without the mattress. Also matching nursery furniture is available at extra cost.
