BUYER BEWARE!!!

My husband was phoned regarding a £500 shopping voucher and agreed to a salesman visiting the next day but informed the caller that we were researching adjustable beds and would not be buying. After a 2 hour presentation we were asked if we were interested in the bed - we replied 'yes' and were asked if we could take delivery in 2 days time! We said NO. The salesman asked if he could make a call to his office on our phone as his mobile wouldn't contact 0800 numbers. He then 'activated' the shopping voucher and after speaking to someone, offered us a week's holiday in Italy and a discounted price if after purchase we would endorse the bed to anyone who contacted us, and could we take delivery in 2 weeks. I said NO and he asked why not. I replied that we were going to buy a new car that day and couldn't afford a bed for a couple of months. He then rang his manager, this time on his own mobile and the manager, MR MALCOLM WITTY, asked to speak to me. He suggested that as I did not feel a personal need for the bed, I was depriving my husband of its comfort. I put the phone down on MR WITTY and told the representative to leave. I then used redial on the phone to contact the Craftmatic number phoned by the representative to ask to speak to MR WITTY in private. I was told that I could not have his number. Eventually I did get to speak to MR WITTY and was told that as we had no intention of buying a bed, I could GO AWAY!

I would advise everyone considering seeing a Craftmatic representative to have a strong minded person with them to say NO and mean NO. I have complained to Trading Standards about Craftmatic's sales technique and shall be contacting Watchdog and other consumer programmes.

Summary: Buyer beware.
