Advantages: detailed design process, some very beautiful products in the catalogue
Disadvantages: incredibly overpriced, sloppy measurement
We have wanted a new bathroom and a new shower room for some time and got energised by a flyer offering 50% discount (how did you calculate your list price if you can offer 50% off, was a question in the back of my mind...). So the design lady duly visited and we talked for about 4 hours about all the details. We found this useful because you find out in detail what you really want. And their catalogue choice means you're only looking very nicely designed pieces.
After she left I found out that she made a measurement error which means that the bath has to be placed somewhere else, but before mentioning it I thought let's see if I agree with the other reviewers about inflated prices. Do I!
A visit to a local plumbing/heating shop, which stocks the same beautiful brands as the Dolphin catalogue, allowed me to add the cost of basins, taps, etc (at retail price). I estimated working days based on my experience in our previous house and came to 9000 for materials and 12000 for labour. Dolphin decided it cost 104000 (I am not joking, and she was not smiling when she said that). After 50% summer sale discount and 10% 'area discount' (that's what she called it) and we were down to, give or take a few hundred, a mere 46000. I don't have that sort of money and if I did, I'd spend it on a Mercedes CLS, the new sexy one.
We're seeing a local plumber/heating engineer next week.
Summary: Dolphin offer good design input but their pricing is indecent.

- 02/08/06 The price seems incredible to me too! I wondered did you have an extra £0 on the end, but you have done it twice. I could build a three storey extension for £104K! I had dolphin out years ago for a new shower room, they quoted about £8K as I recall, and we did it with a local plumber for about £2.2K |

- 31/07/06 i am afraid i find it extremely hard to believe that a high street shop such as dolphin would quote for over GBP 100k for a bathroom. unless you are talking in a different currency or something..? |
