“ Brand: Dunelm / Tye: Ottoman / Seat „
A few years ago when we had done up our spare room, we knew we needed to get some sort of seat that we could push into the corner, so if anyone came to stay they would have somewhere to set their things/clothes etc on. Since it was our spare room, we didn't want to spent a fortune, and so we visited the likes of Ikea and Dunelm to pick up bits and pieces. Instead of a chair, in the end after visiting Dunelm, we noticed this Leatherlike Cream Bean Cube, which we knew would be a perfect match for the colours of the room. I can't quite remember how much we paid at the time, but it currently costs £16.99 and comes in two other darker colours.
I am not that keen on a standard beanbag as I think they can take up space and look messy, but I do like the fact that this is a sturdier bean bag/cube, meaning you can place things on top without it sinking. It can therefore be used not only as a seat, although the lack of back would be an issue after a long sit, but it could also be used as a footstool.
As the name of the product suggests this is a faux leather seat, which can be sponge cleaned if it gets messy, which is very handy.
We have had this beanbag for well over two years, and it has been used mainly as somewhere to put clothes out on. THe spare room has now become my daughters room and I now use this seat to leave out her clothes for the next day. We have also used this cube however anytime we have had a lot of visitors around we have also brought it down as a seat, and anyone that has ever sat on it, has said it was pretty comfortable for a short while, but obviously their back got sore the longer they sat as there is no back support.
The great thing about this cube is that is doesn't take up as much room as a rigid chair. I can move this easily around the room, and it can get squished into a corner easily as there is flexibility with it. IT is a great versatile item of furniture, perfect for childrens rooms or adults and since it can be used to place things on, as well as a foot rest or seat. IF we had more rooms, I would happily get another of these cubes as I think they are great.
These Bean Cubes come from the Dunelm Leatherlike Collection. They're exclusive to this store and can be bought online or in store for £16.99. The colour choices are limited to cream, black and chocolate brown, though I think they're pretty standard colour options for anything leather (or 'leatherlike').
We purchased one of these last year in black to go in our living room and match our sofas. It's a great cheap way to turn our living room sofa into a part-time corner sofa in fact! The height (44cm) is just right for pulling up alongside the end of our sofa and putting our feet up onto. Being light and moveable means it's easy to tuck away at the end of the sofa quickly and easily when it's not in use.
The shape does get lost after a period of regular use. The cube shape can be quickly restored by picking up the cube by its sides and shaking it back into shape though. After around six to twelve months of use, you can't tell that our black bean bag cube has been especially well used, and wipe-clean leatherlike (PVC and polyester I believe) doesn't show any signs of wear. The only way it's really worn down a bit is by feeling that little bit less firm under foot that it initially did.
We liked our black cube so much, that we recently went back and purchased a second cube in cream to go in our playroom. Being made from a wipe-clean material means it's ideal for anywhere that there will be pets or young kids for obvious reasons. It's great for youngsters to sit on as a seat, as well as for making the playroom more comfortable for us adults when we want to put our feet up.
If you want something that's going to stay firm for longer, I think you'll have to dig a lot deeper in your pocket than you need to for this. A real leather, solidly constructed cube will easily set you back £100. To be perfectly honest though, I don't think you would look at this in someone's house and realise they paid less than £20 for it! Yes it starts to sag with use, but the exterior holds up well and it's easily shaken back into shape anyway. For the price, I have to go with a full five stars for this product.
