“ Brand: Dwell / Type: Table „
I bought this table, along with 4 dining room chairs and several other pieces of furniture from Dwell when I first moved into our new home 3 years ago and have been really pleased with it.
There are Dwell shops around in London, but not that many and they have a store inside Selfridges which is where I went to originally view the furniture. I came across the store online by accident when I was looking for furniture and it was definitely a good find. I ordered all my furniture over the phone and found the customer service team, based in the UK, to be really helpful.
The only issue I had with ordering is that sometimes some of the products which are new, either online or in the catalogue they now send me have a long lead time until they are shippede into the UK and can be dispatched. I think I waited about 6 weeks for this table to come into stock.
This was easy to arrange, the guys came exactly when planned and carried all the furniture into our flat quickly and efficiently. Delivery was included in the price of the purchases.
The table comes flat packed with easy instructions about how to assemble and all the necessary tools to do so, I think it was just alum keys. The glass table top screwed onto the base quite easily and it didn't take long to assemble, I put it together on my own.
The table top is 110cm in diameter and about 1cm thick with reinforced glass. The base is crome and has proved very durable and very sturdy. We have four chairs around it, and it's a good size for four people, however I have had five adults sit at it for dinner and it wasn't too squashed. I think it looks good, it's modern in appearance and suits my decor well.
It does show marks and dust very quickly, but on the flip side it's very easy it clean. If it was wood I would be constantly worried about it getting scratched and things being spilled on it. But with the glass top, switch seems to be very hardy and has only a few minor scratches after 3 years of use I don't have to worry. The kids have spilt all sorts on it and do their drawing at the table, I just wipe clean with kitchen roll and anti-bacterial kitchen spray.
I paid £199 three years ago, which i think is a good price. I did look at other similar tables, some more expensive, but this was the one I preferred.
A good solid table, well worth it's price.
It's no exaggeration to say that my family lives to eat, and so having a table where we could all gather for a meal was high on the list of priorities when we moved into our new house. We had seen a few glass dining tables, and this one from Dwell was similar to, but cheaper than, others we saw on the High Street. We bought it as we hoped that at 110cm diameter, we would be able to fit up to 6 people around it, and we paid £199 which is still the current price on the website, with a small additional charge for delivery. We've owned the table for over 2 years now and use it for at least 2 meals per day.
At the time of purchase Dwell shops were few and far between, so we hadn't actually seen the table in store. There are plenty of Dwell shops around now (full list on their website), but we dealt solely with the online store. We ordered the table on a Friday, and were astonished when we were phoned up very shortly afterwards to ask if we could take delivery on Sunday!
The table came unassembled but with clear instructions. The leg screws into a small metal disk which is glued securely and invisibly to the table, and then the foot has to be attached - it's a two person job as the table is heavy. We did have an issue initially that the table was rather wobbly - this turned out to be due to a slight manufacturing fault on the leg. I can't fault Dwell who sent out a new leg with no questions asked, and assured us that should the table not then prove to be satisfactory they would send someone to inspect it.
I'm happy to say that, initial problems dealt with, the table has proved to be very sturdy, there are no sharp edges so it is safe with children and makes great use of the small eating area we have in our kitchen. The glass is tempered safety glass - clearly you will either like this look or not (my mother who was staying with us when it was delivered hated it on sight!), but due to being round it really makes dining a sociable event. We can fit up to 6 chairs around the table with ease, 8 at a squeeze.
The leg, which is chrome, has worn very well - it does show marks however so we regularly clean it. Talking of which - the glass on the table does also need regularly cleaning - actually one thing we hadn't realised until owning this is quite how often children put their mucky fingers actually under the table! At least you can see where the dirt is, but this table does need to be kept spotless to look its best - I find "the Method" glass cleaner and a specialist cloth best at this task.
When eating at this table we tend to use mats, but you can put items directly on the glass. We have found over time that (perhaps inevitably), that despite care the table has got some marks - actually checking whilst writing this review I was surprised how many there were - but these are not really visible unless you look really closely and I don't think the table has worn too badly. The table is available in a range of other finishes and colours and also in a slightly smaller size to fit your requirements.
Overall I have found this to be a good table, that is ideal for the space we have and our needs. I have been very impressed with the customer service at Dwell and would definitely purchase from them again. I think that this table is fairly good value for money, the only reason I have given it 4 stars is that it does mark even with very careful use. Overall I highly recommend Dwell as my experiences online and instore have been very positive. This table has been the setting for many happy family meals and I am sure will continue to be the centre of our kitchen for many years to come. Recommended!
