~*~*~ Elysee Mirrored Front Dressing Table & Stool ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is an absolutely beautiful dressing table with a matching stool. It has a real touch of elegance about it and really finishes off my bedroom perfectly. In fact this is the MOST elegant thing in my house!
~ Why I bought it ~
I am very lucky to have a great-aunt who cannot seem to make her mind up about anything, ever! Recently she decided to do out her spare room and I acquired the unused bed from in there, she also decided to change the carpet on her stairs and landing from one shade of cream to another after only having the carpet down for around half a year, I too acquired that! She has no children and is single, she has no pets either so she spends her money on prettying up her home numerous times a year. I don't complain, I get given the barely used hand me downs after they have had little or mostly, no use, and this is how I came to get this gorgeous dressing table. I have it in the Ivory colourway rather than the Black, I didn't have a choice in this as this was obviously my aunts choice, however I actually think I prefer it in the Ivory.
Before getting this I did have a really big dressing table which I did love however it always has been too big for my bedroom, this however fits the space perfectly. I have a walk-in-wardrobe type room for my clothes and I was going to change this into more of a dressing room and move my big dressing table into there, however I now don't need to as this is much smaller and neater.
We have a shop in the town centre and I often longingly gaze at the mirrored units and dressers but of course, with four children, well, my four children I know they are just not practical as I would be forever cleaning fingerprints off the surfaces so as much as I love the look it isn't something I thought I would be able to have, but thanks to my aunts generosity I have this, and with it being in my bedroom, away from sticky fingers I can have an elegant piece of furniture without worrying.
~ Queen Anne's Legs! ~
The dressing table has a gorgeous shape with a lightly scalloped edge, the Queen Anne style legs make it look all the more elegant rather than it having straight legs. Looking at the photo provided by dooyoo or even those available online, the legs look quite thin and maybe even flimsy however I would say in real life they do look a lot more sturdier and a little chunkier.
The stool has the same design and is a very neat stool. It has a creamy fabric cushion on the seat which I hope never marks!
~ Mirror, mirror ~
The dressing table has two drawers, on the small side I will admit, and these are mirror fronted, they also have a nice traditional looking metal handle on each drawer. There is also a mirrored top and then of course you have the adjustable oval mirror sat on the back side of the table. This mirror can be moved back and forth which is handy for when you are sitting down to carefully apply your make-up and doing your hair, and you can tilt it back more for when you are in a massive rush and are chucking the make-up on your face whist standing ... Like me most mornings!
The mirrors on this dressing table are, to me, what makes it look all that bit more expensive and luxurious that a plain wooden one. It also reflects the light around my room giving it a bigger feel which I like.
Of course it shows up any dust or blusher/bronzer particles but I keep a yellow duster in the drawer and give it a quick wipe over on a regular basis to keep it all looking flashy and nice.
~ Hiding the clutter or not?! ~
As I have already mentioned the drawers are on the small side, even more so when I compare them to the massive monster drawers my old dressing table had. I can fit my hair straighteners in a drawer along with a small brush and that is it for the one, the other drawer I have popped in my everyday make-up - felt eyeliner pen, kohl eyeliner, mascara, bronzer, blusher, brush, tinted moisturiser and a few hair clips and bobbles. They really aren't roomy and are more for your bits and pieces that you regularly use rather than hiding away everything you own. I now have a box in my walk-in-wardrobe containing all the other bits and pieces from my old dressing table and also a vanity case which lives under the dressing table containing all of my other bits of make-up.
I have placed a few bottles of perfume on this dressing table but nowhere near the amount that I had on my old table. Most of my collection are now on a shelf as I fear this would end up looking too cluttered. Sat on the right hand side I have a cream ceramic photo frame and a vase to keep the dressing table looking nice and minimalist.
Overall I am very impressed with this dressing table. Looking online I can see that this is a self assembly item but I can't comment on how easy/difficult this would be as my grandfather brought it to me already built. Other reviews have mentioned though that it is an easy enough job.
The quality is fantastic and I really have nothing at all to complain about with this. I love the elegant look and it makes a real difference to my bedroom. I don't even find the small drawers a problem personally however others may want more roomy drawers than this can offer.
It is priced at around £220 and can be bought from Very & Woolworths. I don't know where my aunt purchased this originally but they are the two places online where I can see it listed.
Thanks for reading :o) x
