We recently chose to buy carpets from Allied Carpets in Northampton. We took advantage of their sale and bought a good quality carpet for a decent price. I admit to being nervous at chosing Allieds because I always thought of them as being akin to going to DFS for a sofa, or Dixons for electricals. I've used both in the past and the customer service is rubbish with dreadful after sales service, unreliable delivery and a complete inability to talk to anyone but an electronic voice down a telephone.

My experience of Allieds couldn't have been better. Their sales staff were very well informed, listened to our requirements and advised us appropriately, No hard sell and an honest appraisal of the products relative to our needs was provided. We chose a carpet and arranged for the sales advisor to come to the house to measure up.

The advisor arrived, on time and measured up. Again, he listened to our concerns and gave excellent advice about the most efficient and best way to fit the carpet. He clearly knew his job and took some pride in his work. He was able to be flexible over the fitting date to ensure that it fitted around us! Yes, I repeat, it fitted around US!!

So, the day came for the carpet to arrive. We got a 'phone call from the same advisor who sold us the carpet first thing telling us when the fitters would arrive. They were there within 5 minutes of the time he said. Within two hours our living room, landing and stairs were carpeted. The fitters accommodated our specific needs regarding off cuts and routed cables and wires just as we asked. Excellent!

So, in summary this was an excellent purchasing experience. We dealt with one highly capable and helpful advisor throughout. They listened to our needs and fitted around us. The fitters were on time and did the job to a high standard. The product was a sensible price (although I'm not entirely sure just how much of a true sale price Allied's carpets are sometimes). I would recommend them unreservedly - and that is saying something as only a month ago I was rather sceptical!
