Advantages: Lot of heritage attached to each piece!

Disadvantages: Time consuming to search for it.

In the past, skilled craftsmen had a lot of time on their hands to make intricate carvings and beautiful designs on all of their works. These works of art were mainly furniture pieces such as beds, chairs, closets etc. These great pieces of art are rarely made these days, as time is precious, and quantity is gradually becoming more important than quality with the immense growth in population.

If you furniture lovers are looking for a more traditional look in your homes, antique furniture is just the thing for you! But to find good antiques is very hard and requires both time and effort. I would say that the small towns in Pakistan are a great place to get the perfect antique pieces for your house.

What shopkeepers in these towns do is buy very old furniture pieces from houses that are going to be demolished, spruce them up a bit and then sell them.

I suggest you go to the small area called Swat for your furniture. In Swat, there are many such shops that sell antique furniture but I recommend you specially visit “The Silk Road”. This shop has a huge place called a “godown” where they store the furniture. They have thousands of beds, cupboards etc. each with their own class and heritage.

If you decide to buy a piece or two (and I guarantee you will), then all you have to do is tell the shopkeeper your address and he will ship it to you!

If you want to go to Swat, this is the route you would normally take:
Take a plane to Islamabad, then another plane or go by car to Said-u-Sharif and then go by car to Swat. For more info. on Swat please read my op.

Sorry for the low rating but not everyone can get to Swat, or would go there just to buy furniture, which you then have to ship back home. Do you know of anywhere in this country which sells 'proper' furniture. Not the usual DIY stuff?
